The Propaganda Game
''The Propaganda Game'' is a 2015 documentary film about North Korea by director Álvaro Longoria. It was described by ''The Hollywood Reporter'' as an "effectively a well-mounted video diary of his short visit to the country" and "inevitably intriguing because of its subject". The film had its world premiere at the September 2015 San Sebastián International Film Festival, and was nominated for the award for Best Documentary Film at the 30th Goya Awards. Production Longoria was permitted to film high-quality footage within the country, his visit facilitated and monitored by Alejandro Cao de Benós, the Spanish founder of the Korean Friendship Association who himself becomes a subject of the documentary. ''Defilada'' (''The Parade'') is a Polish 1989 documentary by Andrzej Fidyk. It focused on the cult of personality in North Korea, and was shot in 1988 on the 40th anniversary of the state's founding by Kim Il-sung. Despite its anti- totalitarian message, it has received praise from North Korea itself. Overview The documentary was made on the occasion of the 40th anniversary celebrations of state's founding in North Korea, which the regime intended to use to eclipse the 1988 Summer Olympics taking place that year in Seoul, South Korea. Andrei Nikolaevich Lankov (russian: Андрей Николаевич Ланьков; born 26 July 1963) is a Russian scholar of Asia and a specialist in Korean studies and Director of Korea Risk Group, the parent company of NK News and NK Pro. Early life and education Lankov was born on 26 July 1963, in Leningrad, Soviet Union (modern day Saint Petersburg). He completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at Leningrad State University in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He also attended Pyongyang's Kim Il-sung University in 1985.
