The Predators (Australian Band)
The Predators are an Australian rock band formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 2005. The band comprises three of the original members of successful rock group Powderfinger, Steven Bishop, Ian Haug and John Collins and Haug's fellow member of Far Out Corporation, Ross McLennan. History Early in Powderfinger's days, Bishop left the group for personal reasons while Haug and Collins stayed on. Haug joined collaborative group Far Out Corporation in the late 1990s with Grant McLennan and drummer Ross McLennan. In 2004, Powderfinger decided to go on hiatus and Haug and Collins both decided to begin families. During this time, they reconnected with Bishop, started playing together and decided to write some music. Before long the group had named themselves The Predators and were signed to Dew Process, a label begun by Powderfinger's manager Paul Piticco which released records by other Powderfinger side projects as well. ''Dream Days at the Hotel Existence'' is the sixth studio album by Australian rock band Powderfinger, released by Universal Music on 2 June 2007 in Australia, 19 November 2007 in the United Kingdom, and 11 November 2008 in the United States on the Dew Process label. It was released in Australia with a limited edition bonus DVD, titled ''Powderfinger's First XI'', featuring eleven music videos spanning the band's career, from the first single, "Tail" to " Bless My Soul", the band's latest single before the release of the album. A collector's edition, including a CD and DVD, was released on 18 April 2008. Powderfinger reunited in late 2006, after a three-year hiatus, to write songs for ''Dream Days at the Hotel Existence'', which was recorded in Los Angeles, California, in early 2007 by producer Rob Schnapf. Pick Up The Pace
''Pick Up the Pace'' is the debut EP by Australian alternative rock band The Predators. It was released on 1 July 2006 through Dew Process and Universal Music Australia. The EP was produced after Powderfinger entered a hiatus, and several of its band members sought work with side projects. Following the release of ''Pick Up the Pace'', The Predators embarked on a minor tour around Australia, including a performance at Splendour in the Grass, before officially going on hiatus, around the time Powderfinger reformed. History The Predators consist of the three original Powderfinger members; Ian Haug (guitar), John Collins ( bass), and Steven Bishop ( drums, vocals), and thus ''Pick Up the Pace'' was influenced by the band's early work. Paul Piticco
Paul Piticco (born 7 March 1969) is an Australian music and hospitality entrepreneur. He is notable for managing Australian band Powderfinger and organising Splendour In The Grass. He is also Managing Director of Dew Process, Create-Control and Secret Service Music Company. Early life and education Piticco was born an only child to Fernando and Carmel Piticco in Brisbane, Australia. His father was an Italian immigrant who had relocated to Australia at a young age and founded a construction business in Brisbane and his mother was employed part-time in nursing and education. Piticco attended Petrie Terrace State School while growing up and later attended Kelvin Grove State High. Career After leaving high school, Piticco started working with his father at the family construction business. Piticco then moved onto employment as a steel salesperson for Boral Limited. Grant McLennan
Grant William McLennan (12 February 19586 May 2006) was an Australian alternative rock singer-songwriter-guitarist. He co-founded the Go-Betweens with Robert Forster in Brisbane in 1977. In addition to his work with the Go-Betweens (1977–89, 2000–06), he issued four solo albums: ''Watershed'' (1991), '' Fireboy'' (1992), ''Horsebreaker Star'' (1994) and ''In Your Bright Ray'' (1997). He also undertook side-projects and collaborations with other artists. McLennan received a number of accolades recognising his achievements and contributions as songwriter and lyricist. In May 2001, the Australasian Performing Right Association listed "Cattle and Cane" (1983), written by McLennan, as one of their top 30 Australian songs of all time. McLennan died of a heart attack in 2006 at the age of 48. Ian Haug
Ian Haug (born 21 February 1970) is an Australian musician and the lead guitarist, songwriter, and backing vocalist in the rock band Powderfinger from its formation in 1989 until its breakup in 2010. He is presently a member of The Church. Powderfinger Powderfinger was formed in 1989 by vocalist and guitarist Ian Haug, bass guitarist John Collins and drummer Steven Bishop, who took their band's name from the Neil Young song " Powderfinger". Before the band's formation, Haug had played in other Brisbane-based outfits. The band later sought an extra guitarist, Bernard Fanning, who Haug had met in a university class. Fanning took over the role of lead vocals from Haug, and at the same time Jon Coghill joined, replacing Bishop. Powderfinger's final line-up change came with the addition of guitarist Darren Middleton. The line-up of Coghill, Collins, Fanning, Haug and Middleton remained unchanged from 1992 onwards. John Collins (Australian Musician)
John Collins (born 27 April 1970) is the mainstay bass guitarist for Australian rock band Powderfinger since 1989. Note: n-lineversion established at White Room Electronic Publishing Pty Ltd in 2007 and was expanded from the 2002 edition. He is one of the founding members of the band, along with guitarist Ian Haug, forming at their high school, Brisbane Grammar School, as a three-piece. Powderfinger has released seven studio albums, a greatest-hits album, and a double CD live album. After they released their first best-of album, '' Fingerprints'', in 2004, they decided to take a break. During the hiatus, Collins played with fellow Powderfinger member Darren Middleton in his new band Drag on a number of occasions as well as performing with Ian Haug and Steven Bishop in The Predators. Steven Bishop
Steven Bishop (born 3 March 1970) is an Australian drummer, formerly of Australian band Powderfinger though he left the band before their rise to prominence because of illness. Later, while working in the UK for two years he played in London-based bands. He has since gone on to record and perform with other Brisbane-based bands, including Moonjuice, The Haymakers, Dagwood and The Predators (for which he is also lead vocalist).Later in life Steven had a career in film and television after finishing at Griffith Film School in 2006.
