The Phantom (horse)
The Phantom was a Group One winning New Zealand Thoroughbred racehorse who made several trips to Australia, and completed a remarkable comeback later in his career. Initial racing career From three to five, trained by Murray Baker, The Phantom's highlights included wins in the Memsie and the Underwood Stakes, and he was third in the 1989 Caulfield Cup and second in the 1990 Melbourne Cup. In 1991, aged five, The Phantom broke down and spent two-and-half years off the scene. Comeback from injury In the spring of 1993 The Phantom returned to racing as an eight-year-old trained by Noel Eales and immediately won the Group Three Trust Bank Central Stakes over 1600m at Wanganui. Later in the same campaign, after finishing third in the Caulfield Cup, The Phantom won the Mackinnon Stakes. Cox Plate is a Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race for horses aged three years old and over under Weight for age conditions, over a distance of 2040 metres (approximately 1m 2f), that is held by the Moonee Valley Racing Club at Moonee Valley Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia in late October. The Thorndon Mile (formally WRC George Adams Handicap) is a Group One (G1) Thoroughbred horse race contested at Trentham Racecourse by the Wellington Racing Club. The race is run on Wellington Cup day, traditionally the last Saturday of January. This race was known as the WRC George Adams Handicap until 1983. Savabeel
Savabeel is a retired Australian Thoroughbred race horse and active sire. He is best known for his win in the 2004 Cox Plate. He was trained by Graeme Rogerson, and ridden by Chris Munce in his most important wins. Breeding Savabeel, foaled on 23 September 2001, is a brown horse sired by champion New Zealand sire Zabeel out of the multiple Group 1 winner Savannah Success. Racing career In Spring 2004 he won the race considered the Weight for Age Championship of Australasia, the Cox Plate, beating the previous year's winner Fields of Omagh.
