The Palisades is a residential area in the northwest portion of the City of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. It was established in 1984 through Edmonton City Council's adoption of the Palisades Area Structure Plan, which guides the overall development of the area. Geography Located in northwest Edmonton, The Palisades is bounded by a Canadian National (CN) rail line to the west, 137 Avenue to the south, 127 Street to the east, and Anthony Henday Drive (Highway 216) to the north. The area is bisected by 153 Avenue and 167 Avenue. The Rampart Industrial area is located beyond the CN rail line to the west, while the Wellington neighbourhood is beyond 137 Avenue to the south and the Castle Downs area is beyond 127 Street to the east. Castle Downs, Edmonton
Castle Downs is a residential area in the northwest portion of the City of Edmonton in Alberta, Canada. The area was originally to be called Athabasca Downs, but when the city rejected the name, the developer used their second choice: Castle Downs. The names of the communities were based on European castles, and Castle Downs became the first area in Edmonton to be named in a thematic way. According to former Names Committee secretary Nancy Diettrich “The castles were chosen to recognize the different ethnic groups in the area.” It was originally established in 1971 through Edmonton City Council's adoption of the Castle Downs Outline Plan, and then extended northward in 1983 through the adoption of the Caste Downs Extension Area Structure Plan. Sturgeon County
Sturgeon County is a municipal district the Edmonton Metropolitan Region of Alberta, Canada. It is north of Edmonton and west of the North Saskatchewan River. Sturgeon County is located in Division No. 11 and was named for the Sturgeon River. History In 1876, the Crown gained title to the land that would later become Sturgeon County in Treaty 6 with First Nations. The area was first settled in 1879. The first settlers were several francophone families. Pembina is a primarily commercial neighbourhood in north west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada with residences in one walk up apartment complex and one townhouse complex. It is roughly a wide, flattened "U" shaped neighbourhood with the neighbourhood of Hudson within the arms of the "U". The base of the "U" runs parallel to 137 Avenue. Oxford is a residential neighbourhood in the Palisades area of north west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. According to the 2001 federal census, residential development of the neighbourhood began in the second half of the 1980s and continued through the 1990s. Nine out of ten (90%) of residences in the neighbourhood, according to the 2005 municipal census, are single-family dwellings. The remaining one out of ten (10%) are duplexes. Almost nine in ten (88%) residences are owner-occupied while the remaining one in ten (12%) are rented. Wellington is a residential neighbourhood located in north west Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. The neighbourhood was developed after World War II with approximately two out of three (66.8%) of residences built between 1946 and 1960. Another one in four residences (25.0%) were built during the 1960s. Development was substantially complete by 1970.
