The Oval Portrait (band)
The Oval Portrait was an American rock band from West Paterson, New Jersey active in the early-to-mid-2000s. Their name was taken from The Oval Portrait, a short story by Edgar Allan Poe. They released the LP "Life In Death" on Eyeball Records in 2003. The band's musical style contained an eclectic mix of influences ranging from post-hardcore and post-punk to psychedelic rock and experimental metal. The lyrical imagery on many songs contained bleak, unsettling subject matter and numerous literary references. "Life In Death" featured guest performances by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance on the songs "Barnabus Collins Has More Skeletons In His Closet Than Vincent Price" and "From My Cold Dead Hands", the latter also featuring Sarah Balliet of Murder By Death (band), Murder By Death. Post-punk
Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of punk music that emerged in the late 1970s as musicians departed from punk's traditional elements and raw simplicity, instead adopting a variety of avant-garde sensibilities and non-rock influences. Eyeball Records is an independent record label originally established in NYC out of Apartment 4C on 14th St at Avenue A by Alex Saavedra and Vincent Li. The label later moved to Kearny, New Jersey. The Sun The Moon The Stars
The Sun The Moon The Stars are a stoner metal band from Woodland Park, New Jersey. History Prior to the band's formation, frontman Matthew Dwyer began writing and demoing material in hopes of finding other musicians to accompany him. Eventually, he joined forces with old friends Joseph Ott on guitar, and Those Mockingbirds frontman Adam Bird on drums. The trio arranged and fine-tuned Dwyer's original compositions to prepare for a studio recording. On Halloween 2009, the band released their debut 4-song EP, ''We Are The Swine'', independently through Bandcamp and limited edition CD. The release was produced by Jayson DeZuzio ( Coheed and Cambria, Skylar Grey) and recorded at Treehouse studios in Jersey City, NJ. Woodland Park (formerly West Paterson) is a borough in Passaic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2020 United States Census, the borough's population was 13,484. "The Oval Portrait" is a horror short story by American writer Edgar Allan Poe, involving the disturbing circumstances of a portrait in a château. It is one of his shortest stories, filling only two pages in its initial publication in 1842. Plot summary The tale begins with an injured narrator (the story offers no further explanation of his impairment) seeking refuge in an abandoned mansion in the Apennines. The narrator spends his time admiring the paintings that decorate the strangely shaped room and perusing a volume, found upon a pillow, that describes them.
