The Original Astro Boy
''The Original Astro Boy'' is a twenty-issue 1980s comic book series (with one ''Astro Boy'' short story in Speed Racer #17) by NOW Comics, based on the original Japanese '' Mighty Atom'' series by Osamu Tezuka. The series was based mostly on the 1963 ''Astro Boy'' anime series, but began to include elements from the 1980 series in later issues. The comic went through three writers and artists, and embellished the original plotline, despite only covering the first episode of the 1963 series. Main story The series begins with Dr. Boynton (Doctor Tenma) putting together Astro Boy, and immediately adopting him under the name "Astor." After only a few days, Boynton becomes fed up with Astro's cold, unchildlike behavior, and plans to shut down and discard him. However, Astro begins to discover that he has powers and was based on Boynton's dead son. NOW Comics
NOW Comics was a comic book publisher founded in late 1985 by Tony C. Caputo as a sole-proprietorship. During the four years after its founding, NOW grew from a one-man operation to operating in 12 countries, and published almost 1,000 comic books. The company was headquartered in the Chicago Loop in Chicago, Illinois. This is a list of characters from the manga and anime series ''Astro Boy'' created by Osamu Tezuka, including the 1963, 1980, and 2003 adaptations. Speed Racer
''Speed Racer'', also known as , is a Japanese media franchise about Auto racing, automobile racing. ''Mach GoGoGo'' was originally serialized in print in Shueisha's 1966 ''Shōnen Book''. It was released in tankōbon book form by Sun Wide Comics and later re-released in Japan by Fusosha. Adapted into anime by Tatsunoko Productions, its 52 episodes aired on Fuji TV from April 1967 to March 1968. In the US, the show aired in Broadcast syndication, syndication at approximately the same time. The anime was later re-broadcast on Tokyo MX from July 1 to September 25, 2008. Selected chapters of the manga were released by NOW Comics in the 1990s under the title ''Speed Racer Classics''. These were later released by Wildstorm Productions, a division of DC Comics, as ''Speed Racer: The Original Manga''.
