The Old Bar
The Old Bar (2001) is a bar and live music venue on the premises of 74–76 Johnston St, between Brunswick and Nicholson streets, in Fitzroy, an inner city suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. The venue currently operates 7 days a week with performances most nights, often at no cost during the week. Residencies are also a regular occurrence at the venue, with a band playing one particular night of the week for the duration of a month, usually with different support acts each time. History The buildings on the site were constructed around the turn of the 20th century, appearing in postal records from 1903/04. Original uses for the buildings varied over the years from various manufacturing enterprises, a dairy, haberdashery and clothing stores, as well as cafes and restaurants. Fitzroy, Victoria
Fitzroy is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area. Heavy metal (or simply metal) is a genre of rock music that developed in the late 1960s and early 1970s, largely in the United Kingdom and United States. Kim Salmon
Kim Leith Salmon (born 24 January 1957) is an Australian rock musician and songwriter from Perth. He has worked in various groups including The Scientists, Beasts of Bourbon, Kim Salmon and the Surrealists, Kim Salmon and the Business, and Darling Downs. Australian rock musicologist, Ian McFarlane, described Salmon as one of the first Australians to "embrace wholeheartedly the emergent punk phenomenon of the mid-to-late 1970s" with The Scientists. He declared that Beasts of Bourbon were "masters of uncompromising gutbucket blues and hard-edged rock'n'roll". In 2004 Salmon was inducted into the West Australian Music Industry Association Hall of Fame and in 2007, into the Music Victoria Awards Hall of Fame. Eddy Current Suppression Ring (sometimes seen as ECSR) are an Australian rock band formed in 2003. By 2004 their line-up was Daniel Young Danny Current on drums, his brother Michael Young Eddy Current on lead guitar and keyboards, Brendan Huntley Brendan Suppression on lead vocals and Brad Barry Rob Solid on bass guitar. Spod are an Australian indie, electro band, often styled as SPOD, which formed in 1995. It is also the pseudonym of the band's mainstay member, Brent Griffin, whether he is performing solo or with other members. They have released two albums, ''Taste the Radness'' (2003) and ''Superfrenz'' (September 2008). Children Collide are an Australian indie rock band from Melbourne, Australia. The band consisted of bassist Heath Crawley and vocalist/guitarist Johnny Mackay throughout its initial run, drummer Ryan Caesar quit the band in February 2012. The Meanies
The Meanies are an Australian punk rock band formed in 1988 by D.D. Meanie (a.k.a. Dennis DePianto) on lead guitar, Link Meanie (a.k.a. Lindsay McLennan) on vocals and guitar, Ringo Meanie (a.k.a. The Nation Blue is a rock band formed in Tasmania and based in Melbourne, Victoria, noted for their intense live performances and bleak subject matter. SixFtHick is an Australian swamp rock band formed in Brisbane, Queensland in 1995, noted for the unpredictable antics of its two singers, brothers Geoff and Ben Corbett. Okkerville River
Okkervil River is an American rock band led by singer-songwriter Will Sheff. Formed in Austin, Texas, in 1998, the band takes its name from a short story by Russian author Tatyana Tolstaya set on the river Okkervil in Saint Petersburg. They began as a trio made up of Sheff and friends he had met in his native state of New Hampshire but, over time, have gone through many lineups. Charlie Parr is an American country blues musician. Born in Austin, Minnesota, he spent part of his childhood in Hollandale before starting his music career in Duluth. His influences include Charlie Patton, Bukka White, Reverend Gary Davis, Dave Van Ronk, and Mississippi John Hurt. He plays a Mule resonator, National resonator guitar, a fretless open-back banjo, and a twelve-string guitar, often in the Piedmont blues style. He is divorced from Emily Parr, who occasionally adds vocals to his music. He has two children.
