The Obsessed
The Obsessed is an American heavy metal band from Potomac, Maryland, led by Scott "Wino" Weinrich. The band combines elements of doom metal, stoner rock, and punk rock. Formed in 1980, they recorded a few demos and played a handful of live shows until they first split up in 1986 when Weinrich joined as lead vocalist for Saint Vitus, but reformed four years later. After releasing three albums (including their self-titled that was originally recorded in 1985), the Obsessed broke up for a second time in 1995. After briefly reuniting for some shows in 2012 and 2013, the Obsessed announced their third reunion in March 2016. Biography Early career (1976–1985) The band formed originally under the name "Warhorse" in 1976 in Potomac, Maryland, led by Wino. In the late 1970s, Wino's band became known as the Leather Nunz. Scott Weinrich
Robert Scott Weinrich (born 1961), better known as Wino, is an American singer and guitarist. He has been highly influential in helping develop and codify doom metal's trademark sound, and is also considered an influential figure in the stoner rock and punk rock genres. Weinrich started his first band Warhorse in 1976, which would later become The Obsessed. He joined doom metal band Saint Vitus in 1986. He has also released three solo albums since 2009. Biography Early years Weinrich appreciated rock music at an early age. His early influences were the Monkees and the Beatles (the latter inspired him to play guitar), and later Frank Zappa, Jimi Hendrix and Black Sabbath. Entombed (band)
Entombed is a Swedish death metal band formed in 1987 under the name of Nihilist. Entombed began their career as an early pioneer of Scandinavian death metal which initially differed from its American counterpart by its distinct "buzzsaw" guitar tone. However, by the early 1990s their sound had broadened to include garage rock and other influences. This new style would eventually be described as death 'n' roll. Entombed has been influenced by bands such as Slayer, Exodus, Black Sabbath, Celtic Frost, Autopsy, Repulsion, Kiss, The Misfits, Motörhead, Discharge, Death and Testament. ''The Church Within'' is the third studio album by American metal band The Obsessed. It was released in 1994 by Columbia Records and Hellhound Records, and was their final album before their 16-year breakup from 1995 to 2011. Columbia Records released two promo singles to support the album, "Streetside"/"Blind Lightning" and "To Protect and to Serve"/"Mental Kingdom". ''The Obsessed'' is the debut album by American metal band the Obsessed, released in 1990 by Hellhound Records. All songs were recorded in 1985 for an intended album for Metal Blade Records, which had never been released. The release of this album prompted singer Scott "Wino" Weinrich to leave Saint Vitus and reform the Obsessed with a new rhythm section. The album was re-released by Tolotta Records in 2000 with new artwork and 10 live bonus tracks recorded at Glenmont Rec. Center in Wheaton, Maryland, on February 25, 1984. It was re-released again on November 17, 2017 by Relapse Records with a slightly updated version of the original artwork. The CD version came with a bonus disc that included the 1984 demo ''Concrete Cancer'', as well as a concert recorded "Live at the Bayou" in Washington, D.C. on April 15, 1985.
