The Norm (radio)
''The Norm'' was a CBC Radio comedy show that ran between 1986 and 1988. It was the immediate successor to The Frantics' ''Frantic Times'' radio show, whose slot they took over in January 1986, and tried to capitalize on its often surreal and zany style with its own cast of characters placed in odd situations. Its regular cast consisted of Peter McCowatt, Megan Smith, Brian Moffatt and Eva Almos. It was wholly recorded in the studio for its first season, and moved to live stage recordings for its second. Re-occurring characters including Sammy Silverfish (a bug who got squished at the end of every segment), Galley George ("one sensitive man against the scourge of history's philistines, armed only with a bounteous knowledge of fine cuisine"), and the always obtuse "Norm Theatre" segments. CBC Radio is the English-language radio operations of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. The CBC operates a number of radio networks serving different audiences and programming niches, all of which (regardless of language) are outlined below. The Frantics (comedy)
The Frantics is a Canadians, Canadian comedy troupe consisting of Paul Chato, Rick Green (comedian), Rick Green, Dan Redican and Peter Wildman. The group formed in 1979. In 1981, they were given a weekly radio slot on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CBC Radio show ''Variety Tonight'', then hosted by Vicki Gabereau. In the summer of 1982 they were the summer replacement for the Royal Canadian Air Farce. They got their own permanent time slot in the fall of 1983. Between 1981 and 1984, their show, ''Frantic Times'', ran for 113 episodes. Each episode regularly featured a female "special guest": in the earlier episodes this was Carolyn Scott, while later it was Mag Ruffman. Sound effects formed an important part of the show and were generally provided by Cathy Perry, longtime Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, CBC sound technician and later a producer at CBC. Double Exposure (comedy Series)
''Double Exposure'' was a Canadian radio and television comedy series which satirized contemporary Canadian politics. The show starred the married couple of Linda Cullen (born 1958) and Bob Robertson (1945-2017), and focused primarily on the stars' voice impersonations of Canadian political and cultural figures. In addition CBC staff announcer Bob Sharples provided the introductions and conclusions to ''Double Exposure'' shows and provided narraration for many ''Double Exposure'' skits. It played on CBC Radio (now known as CBC Radio One) at 11:33 on Saturday mornings, and on CBC Stereo (now known as CBC Music) Saturday evenings at 6:32 (one half-hour later in Newfoundland). Unlike many previous CBC radio comedies, such as ''The Royal Canadian Air Farce'' or '' Frantic Times'', the show would be recorded wholly in a studio without a live audience. Trio (band)
Trio was a German band also known as ZAM in Europe, formed in the town of Großenkneten in 1979. The band is most known for the 1982 song "Da Da Da" which was a hit in 30 countries worldwide. History Trio consisted of Stephan Remmler (b. 1946), lead vocals and keyboards; Gert "Kralle" Krawinkel (1947–2014), guitar and backing vocals; and Peter Behrens (1947–2016), drums and backing vocals. The band recorded a number of albums, the first of which was '' TRIO'', released in 1981. This album included their signature song, "Da Da Da", the full English title of which is "Da Da Da (I Don't Love You, You Don't Love Me, Aha Aha Aha)". The next album was ''Bye Bye'', released in 1983. ''Bye Bye'' was marketed with many different covers; for example, copies in North America were called ''TRIO and Error'' and featured no artwork. XM Satellite Radio (XM) was one of the three satellite radio (SDARS) and online radio services in the United States and Canada, operated by Sirius XM, Sirius XM Holdings. It provided pay-for-service radio, analogous to subscription cable television.
