The Mountain (Maillol)
''The Mountain'' (''La Montagne'') is a monumental sculpture by the French artist Aristide Maillol. Dina Vierny, the artist's longtime collaborator, served as a model for the sculpture. The sculpture, carved in stone, was commissioned by the Musée National d'Art Moderne in 1936 and now can be found at the Museum of Fine Arts of Lyon. ''La Montagne'' was also cast in lead by the Rudier Foundry and the Emile Godard Foundry in an edition of six numbered casts, as four artist's proofs, and as two estate casts. Musée Maillol
The Musée Maillol is an art museum located in the 7th arrondissement at 59–61, rue de Grenelle, Paris, France. History In 1964, Dina Vierny donated Maillol's monumental sculptures to the state. André Malraux, Minister of Culture, installs them in the open air in the Tuileries Garden. The same year, she created her foundation, the aim of which was to make the work of Aristide Maillol known to the public. The museum was established in 1995 by Dina Vierny. On January 20, 1995, the Maillol museum was inaugurated in a mansion in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, the Bouchardon hotel. Its renovation, led by Dina Vierny and the architect Pierre Devinoy, lasted more than fifteen years. On this occasion, he rehabilitated the basement to accommodate the restaurant which had previously been the Cabaret La Fontaine des Quatre-Saisons since 1951, opened by the Les Frères Jacques and Pierre Prévert. Dina Vierny
Dina Vierny (25 January 1919 – 20 January 2009) was an artists' model who became a singer, French art dealer, collector and museum director. Born as Dina Aibinder into a Jewish family in Kishinev, Bessarabia (now Chișinău, Moldova), she was Aristide Maillol's muse for the last ten years of his life. Both Matisse and Bonnard, artists for whom she also posed, attributed a renewed inspiration for painting and sculpture to Vierny. Death Vierny died in Paris, five days before her 90th birthday.
