The Menagerie (series)
The Menagerie is a dark fantasy novel series written by Christopher Golden and Thomas E. Sniegoski. ''The Menagerie'' is made up of legendary characters, each with his or her own powers and mystical, mythical origins. Golden and Sniegoski have taken various characters well known from literature and mythology and made them their own. Ace Books describes them as "beings of myth and legend. They possess powers beyond imagining. They are our only hope. Meet the Menagerie - as hodge-podge a mix of other-worldly beings as anyone can imagine. Christopher Golden
Christopher Golden (born July 15, 1967) is an American author of horror, fantasy, and suspense novels for adults and teens. Early life Golden was born and raised in Massachusetts, where he still lives with his family. He graduated from Tufts University. Career As well as novels, Golden has written comic books and video games, and co-written the online animated series ''Ghosts of Albion'' with actress/writer/director Amber Benson. He co-created and co-writes the Dark Horse Comics series ''Baltimore'' with Mike Mignola and wrote the introduction to the now collectible, 200-only copies, slipcased edition of Joe Hill's book of short stories titled '' 20th Century Ghosts''. He has also edited numerous horror and dark fantasy fiction anthologies. Golden worked on the script for ''Hellboy'', a reboot film based on Mignola's comic series Hellboy, though he ultimately was uncredited. Ace Books
Ace Books is a publisher of science fiction (SF) and fantasy books founded in New York City in 1952 by Aaron A. Wyn. It began as a genre publisher of mysteries and westerns, and soon branched out into other genres, publishing its first science fiction title in 1953. This was successful, and science fiction titles outnumbered both mysteries and westerns within a few years. Other genres also made an appearance, including nonfiction, gothic novels, media tie-in novelizations, and romances. Ace became known for the '' tête-bêche'' binding format used for many of its early books, although it did not originate the format. Most of the early titles were published in this "Ace Double" format, and Ace continued to issue books in varied genres, bound ''tête-bêche'', until 1973. Tears are a clear liquid secreted by the lacrimal glands (tear gland) found in the eyes of all land mammals. Tears are made up of water, electrolytes, proteins, lipids, and mucins that form layers on the surface of eyes. The different types of tears—basal, reflex, and emotional—vary significantly in composition. The functions of tears include lubricating the eyes (basal tears), removing irritants (reflex tears), and also aiding the immune system. Tears also occur as a part of the body's natural pain response. Emotional secretion of tears may serve a biological function by excreting stress-inducing hormones built up through times of emotional distress. Tears have symbolic significance among humans.
