The Megaphone – Crocetta List ( it, Il Megafono – Lista Crocetta) was a regional centre-left political party active in Sicily, Italy. The party was led by Rosario Crocetta, the former President of Sicily, also affiliated to the Democratic Party. History In the 2012 Sicilian regional election the party won 6.2% of the vote and 5 seats in the Sicilian Regional Assembly. In the 2013 Italian general election the party filed a list only for the Senate in Sicily as part of the centre-left coalition Italy. Rosario Crocetta
Rosario Crocetta (born 8 February 1951) is an Italian politician. He was the first openly gay mayor in Italy when he became Mayor of Gela in 2003, a post he held until 2009. A prominent figure in the fight against the Sicilian Mafia, in 2009 he was elected as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP). He was President of Sicily between 2012 and 2017 following the 2012 Sicilian regional election, thus becoming the second openly gay head of a regional government in Italy after Nichi Vendola. Biography Born in Gela, Sicily, in 1951, Crocetta is the son of a water-worker and a seamstress. His older brother is former PCI senator Salvatore Crocetta. After having received his diploma he worked for ENI in Gela. Giuseppe Lumia (Termini Imerese, 28 June 1960) is an Italian politician of the Democratic Party of the Left (''Partito democratico della Sinistra'', PDS) and its successor, the Democrats of the Left (''Democratici di Sinistra'', DS). 2013 Italian General Election
The 2013 Italian general election was held on 24 and 25 February 2013 to determine the 630 members of the Chamber of Deputies and the 315 elective members of the Senate of the Republic for the 17th Italian Parliament. The Sicilian Regional Assembly is the legislative body of Sicily. While it has a long history as an autonomous entity, the modern Region of Sicily was established by Royal Decree on 15 May 1946, before the Italian Republic.
