The Martini Henry Rifles
The Martini Henry Rifles were a British noise-punk band based in Cardiff, Wales. Influences and genre classification Most of their quoted influences are noise and punk (most noticeably Brainiac, whose influence is clear in the Martinis' work), hence the most common noise-punk genre classification. Drowned In Sound likened them to fellow Cardiff band Mclusky, as well as ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead, while Western Telegraph described their album's sound as " Albini-PIL-Superchunk-Pussy Galore howls of pure pop noise fury". Manchester Evening News described the band's live show as "a a sugar rush of Dead Kennedys' bile, Ikara Colt's thrash and Beastie Boys attitude". More Mclusky and Ikara Colt comparisons came from Uncut, which grouped them in with "2002’s scuzzy punk uprising" of which those acts were a part. Cardiff
Cardiff (; cy, Caerdydd ) is the capital and largest city of Wales. Dead Kennedys
Dead Kennedys are an American punk rock band that formed in San Francisco, California, in 1978. The band was one of the defining punk rock, punk bands during its initial eight-year run. Dead Kennedys' lyrics were usually political in nature, satirizing political figures and authority in general, as well as popular culture and even the punk movement itself. During their initial incarnation between 1978 and 1986, they attracted considerable controversy for their provocative lyrics and artwork. Several stores refused to stock their recordings, provoking debate about censorship in rock music; in the mid-1980s, vocalist and primary lyricist Jello Biafra became an active campaigner against the Parents Music Resource Center. Sean McLusky is a British music promoter, nightclub impresario and film producer. Early life The early 1980s saw Sean McLusky as a professional musician, first as a member of Switch, with his brother Graham and friends then original indie band Subway Sect and then with beat outfit JoBoxers, scoring two top ten singles at home and touring a debut album across Europe and the USA. McLusky began to shine as a music promoter in the mid 1980s with soul all-nighters and a weekly live night called 'Club Left' in Soho, London.
