The Magician (2006 Film)
''The Magician'' ( tr, Hokkabaz) is a 2006 Turkish comedy-drama film, directed by Cem Yılmaz and Ali Taner Baltacı, about a magician who tours around Turkey with his father and best friend so that he can make enough money for laser eye surgery. The film, which was released on , was short-listed for Turkey's official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film at the 80th Academy Awards but lost out to '' Takva''. Production The film was shot on location in Istanbul, Gallipoli and Eceabat, Turkey. Plot Iskender is a juggler, but to everyone besides himself and his childhood friend, Maradona, he is actually a magician. The two friends undertake a great deal of risk by including Sait in their tour program while being forced to escape Istanbul. Moreover, Father Sait had stopped appreciating Iskender years ago. Cem Yılmaz (, born 23 April 1973) is a Turkish people, Turkish actor, stand-up comedian, musician, filmmaker, screen writer, and cartoonist. He is best known for his films ''G.O.R.A.'' (2004), ''A.R.O.G'' (2008) and ''Yahşi Batı'' (2010), and has won two Sadri Alışık awards for his roles in ''Organize İşler'' (2005) and ''The Magician (2006 film), The Magician'' (2006). His international films are Russell Crowe's film "Water Diviner" and Ferzan Özpetek's film "Magnifica presenza". Early life and education Yılmaz was born on 23 April 1973 in Istanbul. His family is paternally from Gürün, Sivas, while maternal part of his family is of Turkish origin who immigrated from Thessaloniki, Ottoman Empire (nowadays in Greece). He went to primary school at the Mehmet Akif School. He then got enrolled in the Bahçelievler Kazım Karabekir Secondary School, and then Etiler Anadolu Tourism Vocational High School, eventually going to Boğaziçi University and finishing his studies ...
