The List of the People ( es, La Lista del Pueblo) was a loose coalition of independent candidates that was created in Chile to participate in the 2021 elections for members of the Constitutional Convention. Despite its success in the May 2021 elections, a series of scandals made most of its members have leave the coalition since then. In the Constitutional Convention many of its former members continue to collaborate as part of the "Pueblo Constituyente" group. The pact intented to represent the people that protested in the ''Estallido social'', the civil unrest that started the process to create a new Constitution. Some of the policies agreed between the candidates participating in the list is the commitment to an "environmental, egalitarian and participatory state", the end to the current private pension system, rejection of the TPP-11 and "end to the exploitation of the environment." Left-wing populism, also called social populism, is a political ideology that combines left-wing politics with populist rhetoric and themes. Constituent Unity
Constituent Unity ( es, Unidad Constituyente) was a political alliance in Chile. It included the former members of the Concentration of Parties for Democracy (the Christian Democratic Party, Radical Party, Socialist Party, and Party for Democracy), plus the Progressive Party and Citizens. This alliance was created in light of the municipal, regional and Constitutional Convention elections, held in May 2021. For the municipal elections, the alliance ran as two lists: Unity for the Approval (including the former members of Progressive Convergence: PS, PPD and PR) and Unity for Dignity (PDC, PRO and Citizens). Due to its previous participation as a member of the Broad Front in the primaries for the municipal and regional election, the liberal party and the new deal movement couldn't participate as members of Constituent Unity in those elections. Constitutional Convention (Chile)
The Constitutional Convention () was the constituent body of the Republic of Chile in charge of drafting a new Political Constitution of the Republic after the approval of the national plebiscite held in October 2020. Its creation and regulation were carried out through Law No. 21,200, published on 24 December 2019, which amended the Political Constitution of the Republic to include the process of drafting a new constitution. The body met for the first time on 4 July 2021. 2021 Chilean Constitutional Convention Election
An election for the members of the Constitutional Convention was held in Chile between 15 and 16 May 2021. This election was called after 78% of voters in the 2020 national plebiscite voted to write a new Constitution through this method. After massive protests and riots sparked in October 2019, an agreement was reached on 15 November 2019 between several political parties to start the process to write a new Constitution. In case the first referendum was approved (originally scheduled for 26 April 2021), a special election would be called to select the members of the Constitutional Convention. This election was originally scheduled for 25 October 2020, six months after the first referendum. However, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Chile, the first referendum was moved to 25 October and the eventual election of the members of the Convention was scheduled for 11 April 2021.
