''The Letter'' is the sixth studio album by American singer Avant. It was released by Verve Forecast Records on December 21, 2010 in the United States. The singer worked with The Avila Brothers, Mike City, duo The Pentagon, and others on ''The Letter'' which debuted and peaked at number 119 on the US ''Billboard'' 200, becoming his lowest-charting album to date. It produced three singles, including "Kiss Goodbye", "Your Body is the Business" and "Graduated." Background Speaking in January 2011 to noted UK R&B writer Pete Lewis, assistant editor of ''Blues & Soul'', Avant described his reasons for titling the album ''The Letter'' as being because it represents "a letter from me to my fans, to tell them what's going on in my life, what's going through my head, and my struggles as a man." Myron Lavell Avant (born April 26, 1978), mononymously known as Avant, is an American R&B singer. He is known for his songs " Separated", "Read Your Mind", and "Makin' Good Love". He has produced three Platinum-selling albums. He has released 15 singles and 7 albums. Early life and education Avant was born in Cleveland, Ohio, the youngest of five siblings. He did not belong to a wealthy family and grew up watching his mother struggle to provide the best to her children. His mother encouraged him to improve his music skills by playing classic R&B artists like Smokey Robinson, The Supremes, and Marvin Gaye. He was passionate about music since his childhood. Dawkins & Dawkins is an American gospel music and Christian R&B duo from Davenport, Iowa, who are currently signed to Light Records. The group consist of two brothers, Anson Dawkins and Eric Dawkins. The first album, ''Dawkins & Dawkins'', was released in 1993 by A&M Records. This was the only record released with the label. Their second album, ''Necessary Measures'', was released in 1994 by CGI Records. Their third album, ''Focus'', was released by Harmony Records in 1998. Jeff Porcaro
Jeffrey Thomas Porcaro (; April 1, 1954 – August 5, 1992) was an American drummer, songwriter, and record producer. He is best known for his work with the rock band Toto but is one of the most recorded session musicians in history, working on hundreds of albums and thousands of sessions. While already an established studio player in the 1970s, he came to prominence in the United States as the drummer on the Steely Dan album ''Katy Lied''. AllMusic has characterized him as "arguably the most highly regarded studio drummer in rock from the mid-'70s to the early '90s" and says that "it is no exaggeration to say that the sound of mainstream pop/rock drumming in the 1980s was, to a large extent, the sound of Jeff Porcaro." David Paich
David Frank Paich (born June 25, 1954) is an American musician, best known as the co-founder, principal songwriter, keyboardist and singer of the rock band Toto since 1977. He wrote or co-wrote much of Toto's original material, including the band's three most popular songs: " Hold the Line", " Rosanna" and "Africa". With Toto, Paich has contributed to 17 albums and sold over 40 million records. He and guitarist and singer Steve Lukather are the only members to appear on every studio album. In addition, Paich has worked as a songwriter, session musician and producer with a host of artists including Boz Scaggs and Michael Jackson. "Africa" is a song by American rock band Toto, the tenth and final track on their fourth studio album ''Toto IV'' (1982). It was released as a single in the US through Columbia Records in October 1982, the album's third single overall and second in Europe. Biography Harvey Mason Jr. is the son of session drummer Harvey Mason Sr. Damon Thomas was a songwriting and production partner for R&B producer Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds during the late 1990s, and worked with Babyface on hits such as Dru Hill's "These Are the Times", Faith Evans' " Never Gonna Let You Go", and Pink's " Most Girls". Perspective Records is an American record label, launched in 1991 by the producing team Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, through a joint venture with A&M Records—which Jam & Lewis had had a prosperous working relationship with throughout the 1980s, with several of its major acts including Janet Jackson, The Human League, and label founder Herb Alpert. Contemporary R&B (or simply R&B) is a popular music genre that combines rhythm and blues with elements of pop, soul, funk, hip hop, and electronic music.
