The Last Of Mrs. Cheyney (1961 Film)
''The Last of Mrs. Cheyney'' (german: Frau Cheneys Ende) is a 1961 comedy film directed by and starring Lilli Palmer, Carlos Thompson and Martin Held.Bock & Bergfelder p.511 The film was made as a co-production between France, Switzerland and West Germany. It is based on the 1925 play of the same title by the British writer Frederick Lonsdale which has been adapted into films on several occasions. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Wolf Englert and Bruno Monden Bruno Monden (1900–1980) was a German art director. Gloria-Palast
The Gloria-Palast was a German cinema located on the Kurfürstendamm in the German capital Berlin. It was constructed in 1924 and replaced the existing neo-Baroque Romanischen Hauses designed by Franz Heinrich Schwechten. It became a common location for Berlin premieres of new films. In 1930 the hit ''The Blue Angel'' first screened at the Palast. In 1943 the cinema was gutted by a fire caused by an Allied bombing raid during the Second World War. After the war, the cinema was refurbished and reopened in what was now West Berlin during the Cold War. Ann Smyrner (3 November 1934 – 29 August 2016) was a Danish actress who was active in the 1960s in Italy, the United States, Austria and West Germany. Wolfgang Kieling (16 March 1924 – 7 October 1985) was a German actor. Biography In films since childhood in his native Germany, Kieling appeared in a few American films, notably in Alfred Hitchcock's ''Torn Curtain'' (1966), where he played Gromek, an East German agent brutally slain by Paul Newman's character. He also played Gromek's brother in a scene that was deleted from the final print. Kieling had a small role in '' $'' (aka, ''The Heist'', 1971), starring Warren Beatty. In a British film, ''Amsterdam Affair'' (1968), he portrayed the fictional Dutch detective Van der Valk several years before Barry Foster (another Hitchcock alumnus) was cast in the same role for the British TV series.
