The Jesse Boot Primary School
Nottingham Academy is an academy school located in Nottingham, England. It is an all-through 3-19 school. The school is made up from two (formerly three) predecessor schools, #Greenwood Dale School, Greenwood Dale 11-19, #The Jesse Boot Primary School, The Jesse Boot Primary School 3–11, and formerly Elliott Durham School, Elliott Durham 11–16. The Nottingham Academy was founded in 2009 but formally opened during the year of 2011 when Greenwood Campus had completed construction, becoming the 'largest school in Europe', serving up to 3780 pupils ages 3–19. It is administered by a principal, and each site has a Head of School. The academy is sponsored by the Greenwood Academies Trust (GAT). In September 2020, The Nottingham Academy, Greenwood Campus and Ransom Campus separated and become two individual schools under the Greenwood Academies Trust. Bilateral School
In England, a partially selective school is one of a few dozen state-funded secondary schools that select a proportion of their intake by ability or aptitude, permitted as a continuation of arrangements that existed prior to 1997. Mapperley is a residential and commercial area of north-eastern Nottingham, England. The area is bounded by Sherwood to the north-west, Thorneywood to the south and Gedling to the east. History At various periods the terms 'Mapperley' and 'Mapperley Plains' have been applied to lands, on either side of Woodborough Road (B684), from a point at the junction of Mapperley Road, north-east for a distance of some , to that point where the road forks towards Woodborough village. Jesse Boot, 1st Baron Trent
Jesse Boot, 1st Baron Trent (2 June 1850 – 13 June 1931) transformed The Boots Company, founded by his father, John Boot, into a national retailer, which branded itself as "Chemists to the Nation". Biography Boot sold his controlling interest to American investors in 1920. John Boot offered his close friend and business associate John Harston, the opportunity of going into business with him, but Harston declined, feeling the venture was not worth investing in. Boot was a great benefactor to the City of Nottingham. In 1920 Jesse Boot purchased, and presented to the City of Nottingham, 36 acres of open land that lay along the northern side of the Victoria Embankment alongside the River Trent, opposite Plaisaunce, Jesse Boot's summer house which was demolished in 1961. John Boot
John Boot (1815 – 30 May 1860) was the founder of Boots the Chemists. Originally working in agriculture, he was forced by ill health to change careers and set up a shop to sell medicinal herbal remedies at Goose Gate, Nottingham. Although he had no formal qualification, he had learned the skills from his mother and from the Methodist book, '' Primitive Physic'' by John Wesley. When Boot died in 1860, his wife Mary took over the business, and his son Jesse Boot would go on to expand the business by opening more stores in poor areas, eventually expanding it into the company Boots UK. Bakersfield, Nottingham
Bakersfield is a small residential suburb of Nottingham east of the city centre. History Bakersfield was developed during the 1930s, with a mixture of private and council residential housing. A remarkable feature of the council housing (designed by T. Cecil Howitt) is the space given over to gardens and other open spaces. Other amenities added later included a supermarket (Greater Nottingham Coop on Oakdale Road), numerous smaller shops and a sub post-office.
