Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. The Independent
''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition. The newspaper was controlled by Tony O'Reilly's Irish Independent News & Media from 1997 until it was sold to the Russian oligarch and former KGB Officer Alexander Lebedev in 2010. Melissa Reddy
Melissa Reddy (born 24 August 1986) is a South African football journalist and author. Reddy left her role as the Senior Football Correspondent at ''The Independent'' in March 2022, to become a senior reporter for ''Sky Sports'' and ''Sky Sports News''. Her speciality is the Premier League. Career Whilst studying at university, Reddy did an internship at Summit TV, a business channel in South Africa. After moving to Cape Town and joining TEAMtalk Media in 2007, and working across many sports, Reddy was Head of Football by 2011, before becoming Deputy Editor of ''Kick Off'' which is Africa's largest sport publication. On both occasions, she was the first woman to hold such a post, and was also the first to feature as a football analyst on SuperSport’s marquee shows ''Backpages'' and ''Monday Night Football''. Miguel Delaney
Miguel Delaney is a Spanish-Irish football journalist and author. He is the chief football writer at ''The Independent''. Career Whilst working in his native Ireland with the '' Sunday Tribune,'' Delaney was nominated for Young Journalist of the year at the National Media Awards, and was later nominated for the NNI Sports Journalist of the year award. After starting at The Tribune Delaney went on to write for ''ESPN'', Ireland's '' Sunday Independent'', the pages of ''The Blizzard'', ''Eurosport'', ''The Daily Mirror'', and ''The Belfast Telegraph''. 2018 FIFA World Cup
The 2018 FIFA World Cup was the 21st FIFA World Cup, the quadrennial world championship for men's national Association football, football teams organized by FIFA. It took place in Russia from 14 June to 15 July 2018, after the country was awarded the hosting rights in 2010. It was the eleventh time the championships had been held in Europe, and the first time they were held in Eastern Europe. Football Supporters Federation
The Football Supporters' Federation (FSF) is an organisation representing football fans in England and Wales. It campaigns across a range of issues and supports fan representation on clubs' boards, lower ticket prices, and the introduction of safe standing areas at grounds in the top two tiers of English football. The organisation is free to join and acts as a singular voice for football fans. The FSF represents more than 500,000 members made up of individual fans and affiliated supporters' organisations from every club in the professional game and footballing pyramid.
