The Horrors EP
''The Horrors'' (also known as ''We Are the Horrors'') is the debut EP by English rock band the Horrors, released on 24 October 2006 by record label Stolen Transmission. It consists of the A- and B-sides to the two singles previously released by the band: "Death at the Chapel" and "Sheena Is a Parasite". Content "Crawdaddy Simone" is a cover of a 1965 single by the Syndicats (featuring Ray Fenwick), produced by Joe Meek. Release ''The Horrors'' was released on 24 October 2006 by record label Stolen Transmission. At first it was only released in America, but was eventually released in the UK. A slightly different version with a white cover was released in Japan and Australia. Reception ''The Horrors'' was generally well received by critics. The Horrors
The Horrors are an English rock band formed in Southend-on-Sea in 2005, consisting of lead vocalist Faris Badwan, guitarist Joshua Hayward, keyboardist and synthesizer player Tom Furse, bassist Rhys Webb, and drummer and percussionist Joe Spurgeon. Their music has been classified as garage rock, garage punk, gothic rock, shoegaze and post-punk revival. The band have released five studio albums: '' Strange House'' (2007), ''Primary Colours'' (2009), ''Skying'' (2011), '' Luminous'' (2014) and '' V'' (2017) all of which charted within the UK Top 40. Joe Meek
Robert George "Joe" Meek (5 April 1929 – 3 February 1967) was an English record producer, sound engineer and songwriter who pioneered space age and experimental pop music. He also assisted in the development of recording practices like overdubbing, sampling and reverberation. Meek is considered one of the most influential sound engineers of all time, being one of the first to develop ideas such as the recording studio as an instrument, and becoming one of the first producers to be recognised for his individual identity as an artist. Jack The Ripper (song)
"Jack the Ripper" is a song written by Clarence Stacy, his brother Charles Stacy, Walter Haggin and Joe Simmons, and first recorded by Clarence Stacy in 1961. His recording, arranged by Lor Crane, was issued that year as a single on the Carol record label in New York City. The most famous recording was by English musician Screaming Lord Sutch, released as a 7" single in the UK and Germany in 1963 on Decca. It was credited as written by "Stacey, Hagen, Symonds", produced by Joe Meek and recorded in his Holloway Road studio in Islington, England. The song was banned by the BBC upon its release. Musical composition Sutch's version of "Jack the Ripper" is two minutes and forty-eight seconds long, in the key of B-flat major, and 4/4 time. Sheena Is A Parasite
"Sheena Is a Parasite" is the debut single by English rock band the Horrors, released in April 2006 by Loog Records. Content The title and content were adapted from the Ramones single "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker" as well as the Cramps' "Sheena's in a Goth Gang", and chronicled the demise of punk music and its cultural influence. The B-side is a cover of the Screaming Lord Sutch song "Jack the Ripper". Release It did not chart, as it contained both stickers and inserts, therefore breaking chart rules. Music video The music video was directed by Chris Cunningham, ending a seven-year music video hiatus for the much respected Cunningham, who admitted to being "mildly obsessed" with the track after coming across it on MySpace. ''Strange House'' is the debut studio album by English rock band the Horrors, released on 5 March 2007 by Loog Records. Content The band announced the title via a MySpace bulletin on 11 January 2007. The album subtitle, "Psychotic Sounds for Freaks and Weirdos", was created by a fan from the official Horrors forum. The album consists mostly of previously released material, although several of these tracks were re-recorded or remixed. Release ''Strange House'' was released on 5 March 2007 by Loog Records. It reached No. 37 in the UK Albums Chart. A special edition including a DVD in a gatefold digipak was also released, which contained three music videos ("Sheena Is a Parasite", "Count in Fives" and "Gloves"), three live performances (one full-length and two short sets), an interview and a photo gallery. Horror Punk
Horror punk is a music genre that mixes punk rock and 1950s-influenced doo-wop and rockabilly sounds with morbid and violent imagery and lyrics which are often influenced by horror films and science fiction B-movies. The genre was pioneered by the Misfits in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Subsequent bands formed in the Misfits' wake like Mourning Noise, the Undead and Samhain, solidifying horror punk's first wave. Ray Fenwick
Raymond John Fenwick (18 July 1946 – 30 April 2022) was an English guitarist and session musician, best known for his work in The Syndicats and in The Spencer Davis Group in the 1960s, and as the lead guitarist of Ian Gillan's post-Deep Purple solo project, the Ian Gillan Band. Career Fenwick's first professional group was a ska and bluebeat group called Ray and the Red Devils. In 1964, he joined The Syndicats, replacing Steve Howe, and in turn being replaced by Peter Banks. In 1965, he joined the Dutch group Tee-Set, from which developed another group After Tea.
