The High Water Marks
The High Water Marks is an indie rock band associated with the Elephant 6 collective. The band has two lead creative members, Hilarie Sidney and Per Ole Bratset, who co-write the band's music. Band history Hilarie Sidney, drummer for The Apples in Stereo and Per Ole Bratset of the band Palermo met during an Apples in Stereo performance in Oslo, Norway. The two became friends and began recording songs together through the mail before deciding to record together in the United States. During this time, the band's debut album ''Songs About the Ocean'' was recorded with Sidney and Bratset performing all of the instruments themselves. Sidney and Bratset, now married, were joined by Jim Lindsay (former Oranger member and Preston School of Industry contributor) and Mike Snowden (known for his work in Von Hemmling and Real Numbers) to play drums and bass, respectively. Oslo
Oslo ( , , or ; sma, Oslove) is the capital and most populous city of Norway. It constitutes both a county and a municipality. Preston School of Industry was an American indie rock band formed by Scott Kannberg (a.k.a. Spiral Stairs) in 1999, following the dissolution of his previous band, Pavement (band), Pavement. Its name is taken from the well known US reform school of the same name, Preston School of Industry in Ione, California. The band's earliest studio release was a cover of Phish's "Axilla II" for the charity tribute album ''Sharin' in the Groove''. In 2001, Preston School of Industry released ''All This Sounds Gas''. The band released its second album, ''Monsoon (Preston School of Industry album), Monsoon'', in 2004, with studio contributions from members of The Minus 5 and Wilco. History The label began as a compilation album, ''Happy Happy Birthday To Me Volume 1'', before it expanded into a 7" singles club, which released records by Of Montreal, Marshmallow Coast, The Essex Green, Great Lakes, and Masters of the Hemisphere, while also releasing several tape and CD compilations. The singles club was noted for its individuality, with each individual record by an artist often being different. For example, each copy of The Essex Green's single came with a different original photograph on the sleeve, while Marshmallow Coast's were hand-drawn by school children.
