''The Heroine of the Yangs'' (穆桂英) is a 2-season ATV series aired in Hong Kong in 1998, starring Amy Chan as the titular heroine Muk Gwai-ying of the Yang (Yeung in Cantonese) family. It is an adaptation of the ''Generals of the Yang Family'' legends. Chen Tuan 陳摶 (allegedly October 10, 871 – July 22, 989) was a Chinese Taoist credited with creation of the kung fu system Liuhebafa ("Six Harmonies and Eight Methods"). Along with this internal art, he is also said to be associated with a method of qi (energy) cultivation known today as Taiji ruler and a 24-season Daoyin method (''ershisi shi daoyin fa'') using seated and standing exercises designed to prevent diseases that occur during seasonal changes throughout the year. Xiao Chuo
Xiao Yanyan (; 953–1009), also known as Empress Dowager Chengtian (承天皇太后) was a Khitan empress and military leader of imperial China's Liao dynasty. She was regent on behalf of her son from 982. History Xiao Yanyan was the 3rd child of Xiao Siwen (蕭思溫), Liao's chancellor. Also referred to by the name Xiao Chuo, Xiao's original Khitan family name was Bali (拔裏氏). She Saihua
She Saihua (佘賽花) is a legendary heroine from ancient China's Northern Song Dynasty. The wife of Yang Ye and the mother of their 7 sons, she is a prominent figure in the stories on ''Yang Jia Jiang, Generals of the Yang Family''. The elderly and widowed She Saihua is also commonly known as She Taijun (佘太君; "Dowager She") and is usually depicted with a dragon-head cane (龍頭拐杖). She allegedly lived past the age of 100. Yang Zongbao
Yang Zongbao (楊宗保) is a character in the ''Generals of the Yang Family'' legends. In these largely fictionalized stories, he is the son of general Yang Yanzhao and Princess Chai, the husband of Mu Guiying and the father of Yang Wenguang. Historical Basis According to '' History of Song'', Yang Wenguang was the son rather than the grandson of Yang Yanzhao, and no "Yang Zongbao" was found in either this record or the ''Records of Longping'' (隆平集), which mentioned the names of Yang Yanzhao's 2 other sons. However, two surviving genealogy books of the Yangs from Dai County and Yuanping City - both in Shanxi province where the legendary Yang Family originally came from - both recorded Yang Zongbao as one of the three sons of Yang Yanzhao.
