The Heritage was a one-off European Tour men's professional golf tournament contested during the 2004 European Tour season. The event was sponsored by the International Management Group and was held in honour of Ken Schofield, who was stepping down as executive director of the European Tour after 30 years. The Heritage was hosted on the Duke's Course at Woburn Golf and Country Club near Milton Keynes, England and offered a prize fund of €2,000,000. Golf Course
A golf course is the grounds on which the sport of golf is played. Ken Schofield
Kenneth Douglas Schofield (born 3 February 1946) was the executive director of the European Tour from 1975 to 2004. Schofield was born and raised in Perthshire, Scotland. He entered the banking profession at the age of 23. On 1 January 1975, Schofield became executive director of the European Tour, replacing John Jacobs. He served in that capacity until the end of 2004. During his tenure, the tour grew from 17 events to 45, expanded around the world, and added the Challenge Tour and European Seniors Tour. Schofield was appointed CBE in the 1996 Birthday Honours and awarded the Ambassador of Golf Award by the PGA Tour in 2006 and was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2013. 2004 European Tour
The 2004 European Tour was the 33rd golf season since the European Tour officially began in 1972. The season was made up of 45 tournaments counting towards the Order of Merit, which included the four major championships and three World Golf Championships. Ernie Els won the Order of Merit, defending the title he won in 2003.
