The Henry Lawson Festival
The Henry Lawson Festival is an arts festival held annually on the King's birthday weekend in Gulgong and Grenfell, New South Wales (NWS), Australia. Henry Lawson, one of Australia's best loved poets and writer of short stories, was born in Grenfell, and he lived in Gulgong for a time as a child. The Festival is one of the longest running arts events in NSW, celebrating its 60th year in 2017 as well as Henry Lawson's 150th birthday, June 17, 2017. The Festival celebrates poetry, art, and Australian talent. The event includes exhibitions, school events, and plays, as well as a parade, street performers, and a car show. There are competitions in verse, short story, painting and photography. Iandra Castle also opens its doors to the public on the Sunday of the Festival. Each year the festival hosts an official guest for the weekend. Alan Belford Jones AO (born 13 April 1941 or 1943) is an Australian former radio broadcaster. He is a former coach of the Australia national rugby union team and rugby league coach and administrator. He has worked as a school teacher, a speech writer in the office of the Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser, and in musical theatre. He has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Queensland, and completed a one-year teaching diploma at Worcester College, Oxford. He has received civil and industry awards. Bill Peach
William Norman Peach (15 May 1935 – 27 August 2013) known as Bill Peach, was an Australian television journalist who hosted the ABC current affairs program ''This Day Tonight'' from 1967 to 1975. Early life and education Peach was born in 1935 in the Riverina town of Lockhart, New South Wales. He was educated at a boarding school, St Stanislaus College in Bathurst, and then studied a master of arts degree at St John's College, University of Sydney, where he met his future wife, Shirley. Garry George McDonald AO (born 30 October 1948) is an Australian actor, satirist and comedian. In a career spanning five decades he has had many theatre, television and film roles, and has been listed as a National Living Treasure. He is best known as the seemingly naive celebrity interviewer Norman Gunston, through whom he pioneered the "ambush interviewer" technique since followed by many others. Iandra Castle
Iandra (colloquially known as Iandra Castle) is a large heritage register, heritage-listed homestead south of Greenethorpe, New South Wales, Greenethorpe, in the Weddin Shire, New South Wales, Australia. The property was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 18 February 2005. The homestead is a former Methodist Church of Australasia, Methodist Orphanage, Boys' home and working farmland. Henry Lawson
Henry Archibald Hertzberg Lawson (17 June 1867 – 2 September 1922) was an Australian writer and bush poet. Along with his contemporary Banjo Paterson, Lawson is among the best-known Australian poets and fiction writers of the colonial period and is often called Australia's "greatest short story writer". A vocal nationalist and republican, Lawson regularly contributed to '' The Bulletin'', and many of his works helped popularise the Australian vernacular in fiction. He wrote prolifically into the 1890s, after which his output declined, in part due to struggles with alcoholism and mental illness. At times destitute, he spent periods in Darlinghurst Gaol and psychiatric institutions.
