The Great Depression (Blindside Album)
''The Great Depression'' is the fifth studio album from post-hardcore band Blindside. It is their first album for DRT Entertainment. The album was largely influenced by a trip to Africa that their lead singer, Christian, had undertaken. He was very unsettled by his experience and the things he saw influenced the album immensely. The song "Yemkela" was written about a young African boy he met on his trip. The boy had HIV and had less than two months to live. However, in a recent interview, Christian Lindskog revealed that on a recent tour in South Africa, he had seen Yemkela (who Christian expected would be dead) at a show in Cape Town. To Christian's surprise, he was doing well and watched Blindside perform his song and sang along. Blindside (band)
Blindside is a Swedish rock band from the southern suburbs of Stockholm. They formed in Stockholm in 1994 as Underfree. In 1996, they changed their name to Blindside and released the ''Blindside'' album in 1997 through Swedish independent record company Day-Glo Records. Another album, '' A Thought Crushed My Mind'', came out in 2000. The group received greater attention in 2001 when they toured with P.O.D., resulting in a contract with Elektra. In 2002 they released the album ''Silence'' and in 2003 they toured in support of Hoobastank. A 2004 headlining tour suffered equipment theft but then Blindside released ''About a Burning Fire''. Losing support from their label, the next year Blindside released ''The Great Depression'' independently, and they put out the DVD ''Ten Years Running Blind''. DRT Entertainment
DRT Entertainment was a New York City based independent record label founded in 2003 by Derek Shulman, Ron Urban, and Theodore "Ted" Green. The label is defunct. The label advertised itself as an "artist friendly hard rock music company for bands with a touring fan base." The company was distributed by Universal Music Group's Fontana Distribution. DRT was also distributed by Universal Music Canada and a variety of companies in the rest of the world including Soulfood in Germany, Shock Records in Australia and JVC Records in Japan. DRT had one subsidiary label, Brass Tacks Records. It was a vanity label founded by the Street Dogs. In 2005, it released Alucard Music's "35th Anniversary" editions of many CDs by Gentle Giant, Shulman's former band. (Thirty-five years after the debut album.) The label closed in 2009. ''About a Burning Fire'' is the fourth album by post-hardcore band Blindside. It was released on February 24, 2004 through Elektra and 3 Points Records. The album is notable for featuring The Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan on the track "Hooray, It's L.A." "All of Us" became the album's lead single. Its music video features a young man chasing after a woman through a dead, leafless forest. In his desperation, the man's arms begin to stretch out to her in a feat similar to Mr. Fantastic's. The video aired considerably on Fuse TV. Post-hardcore
Post-hardcore is a punk rock music genre that maintains the aggression and intensity of hardcore punk but emphasizes a greater degree of creative expression. Benea Reach
Benea Reach was a Norwegian progressive metal band based in Oslo. The band was nominated for a Spellemannsprisen Award in the metal category, and at one time included noted guitarist Christer Espevoll of progressive metal band Extol. History Benea Reach was formed on 22 March 2003 by drummer Marco Storm and vocalist Ilkka Volume of Selfmindead fame. They were joined by Morten (bass guitar), Tor (guitar), Erik (guitar), and Anders (Digital Audio). This original incarnation of the band only lasted for a year and disbanded. Johnny Cash
John R. Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) was an American country singer-songwriter. "A Boy Named Sue" is a song written by humorist, children's author, and poet Shel Silverstein and made popular by Johnny Cash. Cash recorded the song live in concert on February 24, 1969, at California's San Quentin State Prison for his ''At San Quentin'' album. Cash also performed the song (with comical variations on the original performance) in December 1969 at Madison Square Garden. The live San Quentin version of the song became Cash's biggest hit on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart and his only top ten single there, spending three weeks at No. 2 in 1969, held out of the top spot by "Honky Tonk Women" by The Rolling Stones.
