The Gospel Coalition
The Gospel Coalition, or TGC, is a union of Evangelicalism, evangelical and Reformed church, Reformed churches. History It was founded in 2005 by theologian D. A. Carson and pastor Tim Keller (pastor), Tim Keller. TGC describe their mission as being “deeply committed to renewing our faith in the gospel of Christ and to reforming our ministry practices to conform fully to the Scriptures.” The Gospel Coalition, Carson wrote in 2018, is “not a monolith; we are a coalition. What holds us together is our shared commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.” As TGC describes itself in a promotional video, “We are not united by culture, nationality, or politics, but by the cross of Jesus Christ.” In the resources it produces, TGC seeks to apply Scripture and gospel-centered approaches to contemporary culture, current events, and issues in everyday life. Evangelicalism (), also called evangelical Christianity or evangelical Protestantism, is a worldwide interdenominational movement within Protestant Christianity that affirms the centrality of being " born again", in which an individual experiences personal conversion; the authority of the Bible as God's revelation to humanity (biblical inerrancy); and spreading the Christian message. Reformed Church
Calvinism (also called the Reformed Tradition, Reformed Protestantism, Reformed Christianity, or simply Reformed) is a major branch of Protestantism that follows the theological tradition and forms of Christian practice set down by John Calvin and other Reformation-era theologians. It emphasizes the sovereignty of God and the authority of the Bible. Calvinists broke from the Roman Catholic Church in the 16th century. Calvinists differ from Lutherans (another major branch of the Reformation) on the spiritual real presence of Christ in the Lord's Supper, theories of worship, the purpose and meaning of baptism, and the use of God's law for believers, among other points. New Calvinism
New Calvinism, also known as the Young, Restless, and Reformed Movement, is a new religious movement within conservative Evangelicalism that reinterprets 16th-century Calvinism under contemporary values and ideologies. History The movement started in the 1980s, with the founding of the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood in 1987 in the United States, which stresses the complementarianism between men and women (as opposed to feminism). The teaching of covenant theology (as opposed to dispensationalism) and synodal governance in the Church are also hallmarks of the movement. Julius Kim
Julius Jason Kim is a Korean-American theologian and president of The Gospel Coalition. Biography Born in Los Angeles, Kim spent part of his childhood in South Korea before returning to California at the age of 12. He received a BA from Vanguard University, M.Div. from Westminster Seminary California, and Ph.D. from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. Kim taught at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School before moving to Westminster Seminary California in 2000, where he is Dean of Students and Professor of Practical Theology. Ordained in the Presbyterian Church in America, he is also an associate pastor at New Life Presbyterian Church in Escondido, California. Timothy J. Keller (born September 23, 1950) is an American pastor, theologian, and Christian apologist. He is the chairman and co-founder of Redeemer City to City, which trains pastors for service around the world. Mark Driscoll (pastor)
Mark A. Driscoll (born 1970) is an American evangelical pastor and author who founded the now defunct Mars Hill Church. He is the senior and founding pastor of the Trinity Church in Scottsdale, Arizona, which was founded in 2016. In 1996, Driscoll co-founded Mars Hill Church in Seattle, Washington. In March 2014, Mars Hill Church had 14,000 members in five states and fifteen locations. Joshua Eugene Harris is an American former Evangelical Christian pastor. Harris' 1997 book ''I Kissed Dating Goodbye'', in which he laid out his ideas concerning a Biblically based Christian approach to dating and relationships, helped shape purity culture for many Christian millennials. Harris was lead pastor of Covenant Life Church, the founding church of Sovereign Grace Ministries, in Gaithersburg, Maryland from 2004 until 2015. Darrin Patrick
Darrin Patrick (December 4, 1970 – May 7, 2020) was an American author and teaching pastor at Seacoast Church in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a pastor of The Journey, a fellowship of churches in St. Louis, Missouri, which he founded in 2002. He served as the chaplain to the St. Louis Cardinals and was the author of several books.
