The Girl On The Pier
''The Girl on the Pier'' is a 1953 British crime film produced by John Temple-Smith, directed by Lance Comfort and starring Veronica Hurst, Ron Randell, Brian Roper, Campbell Singer and Anthony Valentine. Plot Inspector Chubb (Charles Victor) dictates a warrant for arrest for murder. He then takes a car to the railway station, where he catches a train to Brighton with his wife and young son. Cathy, their teenage daughter, chats up a young crime reporter, Ronnie Hall, at the bar. On Brighton Pier, ex-convict Nick Lane (Ron Randell), who has recently started working on the pier with a dance band as clarinetist and vocalist, flirts with Rita Hammond, talking of their assignation the night before and arranging to meet her at the dance that night. Lance Comfort
Lance Comfort (11 August 1908 – 25 August 1966) was an English film director. In a career spanning over 25 years, he became one of the most prolific film directors in Britain, though he never gained critical attention and remained on the fringes of the film industry, creating mostly B movies. Comfort carried on working almost right up to his death in Worthing, Sussex, in 1966. He had four children: Edward (born 1929), James (born 1931), Anna (born 1934) and Jack (born 1936). Brighton Pier
The Brighton Palace Pier, commonly known as Brighton Pier or the Palace Pier, is a Grade II* listed pleasure pier in Brighton, England, located in the city centre opposite the Old Steine. Established in 1899, it was the third pier to be constructed in Brighton after the Royal Suspension Chain Pier and the West Pier, but is now the only one still in operation. It is managed and operated by the Eclectic Bar Group. The Palace Pier was intended as a replacement for the Chain Pier, which collapsed in 1896 during construction of the new pier. It quickly became popular, and had become a frequently-visited theatre and entertainment venue by 1911. Aside from closures owing to war, it continued to hold regular entertainment up to the 1970s. Brighton
Brighton () is a seaside resort and one of the two main areas of the City of Brighton and Hove in the county of East Sussex, England. It is located south of London. Guy Morgan (writer)
Edward Guy Trice Morgan (6 February 1908 – 20 July 1964) was a British screenwriter. Morgan was educated at Haileybury College and Merton College, Oxford, graduating in 1929. He worked as a journalist and film critic for the '' Daily Express''. During the Second World War, Morgan served in the RNVR; he was wounded in a raid on a Yugoslav island, and became a POW. After the war he wrote his first novel, ''The Captive Heart'', which he sold to Ealing, launching his career. His other books included ''Only Ghosts Can Live'' (1945) and ''Adventures of the Sea Hawk''. He was co-author of the play '' Albert R.N.'', which he later adapted as a screenplay. He also wrote early episodes of the Storm Nelson strip in Eagle. Morgan married, and had a daughter. He died in 1964.
