''The Girl on the Bridge'' is a 1951 American film noir crime film cowritten and directed by Hugo Haas. It stars Haas, Beverly Michaels and Robert Dane. The film' sets were designed by the art director Vin Taylor. Plot A kindly elderly watchmaker, who lost his family in the holocaust, sees a beautiful young blonde on a bridge and prevents her from committing suicide. They marry and live happily until a man from her past attempts to blackmail her. Hugo Haas
Hugo Haas (19 February 1901 – 1 December 1968) was a Czech film actor, director and writer. He appeared in more than 60 films between 1926 and 1962, as well as directing 20 films between 1933 and 1962. Life and career Haas was born in Brno, Austria-Hungary (now in the Czech Republic), and died in Vienna, Austria from complications of asthma. He and his brother, Pavel Haas, studied voice at the Brno Conservatory under composer Leoš Janáček. Pavel Haas went on to become a noted composer himself before he was killed in Auschwitz in 1944. Film noir (; ) is a cinematic term used primarily to describe stylish Hollywood crime dramas, particularly those that emphasize cynical attitudes and motivations. The 1940s and 1950s are generally regarded as the "classic period" of American ''film noir''. Judy Clark (June 9, 1921 – December 27, 2002) was an American film and television actress and singer. Clark adopted a brash and energetic singing style, similar to that of musical-comedy star Betty Hutton (with trade critics almost always comparing the blonde Clark to the blonde Hutton). Early life Clark was the daughter of Jack Kaufman, who was a vaudeville performer. Arnold Lippschitz (1901–1952) was a German screenwriter. Born the son of the playwright Arthur Lippschitz, his young brother was the art director Herbert Lippschitz. He began his film career in 1918 at the end of the First World War.
