Judy Clark
Judy Clark (June 9, 1921 – December 27, 2002) was an American film and television actress and singer. Clark adopted a brash and energetic singing style, similar to that of musical-comedy star Betty Hutton (with trade critics almost always comparing the blonde Clark to the blonde Hutton). Early life Clark was the daughter of Jack Kaufman, who was a vaudeville performer. She and comedian Jack Gilford were among the new faces in the stage show ''Meet the People''; Universal Pictures signed both for the Gloria Jean musical ''Reckless Age'' (1944). Clark won the juvenile lead in the 1944 Benny Fields musical '' Minstrel Man'', in which she delivered two songs in the Hutton manner. The role reflected Clark's own life, as a rising star in a theatrical family. Plot summary Joan Hollingsworth's mother orders her to remain in her bedroom during a party for older sister Ethel, whose beau J. Waldo Barnes is the guest of honor. It is the second film in the series, which was produced by Monogram Pictures. Plot The boys are involved in an altercation with a vegetable vendor and are saved by Father Donovan who convinces the policeman to let them go. It was a vehicle for Broadway and vaudeville headliner Benny Fields. Plot Singing star Dixie Boy Johnson and his wife Caroline are jubilant over Dixie's headlining a Broadway show and Caroline's impending motherhood. On opening night, Caroline is rushed to the hospital and Dixie begs to leave the theater and join her, but producer Lew Dunn refuses. Caroline dies in childbirth and Dixie is shattered. A serial film, film serial (or just serial), movie serial, or chapter play, is a motion picture form popular during the first half of the 20th century, consisting of a series of short subjects exhibited in consecutive order at one theater, generally advancing weekly, until the series is completed. Generally, each serial involves a single set of characters, protagonistic and antagonistic, involved in a single story, which has been edited into chapters after the fashion of serial fiction and the episodes cannot be shown out of order or as a single or a random collection of short subjects. Each chapter was screened at a movie theater for one week, and ended with a cliffhanger, in which characters found themselves in perilous situations with little apparent chance of escape.
