The Flirt (1922 Film)
''The Flirt'' is a 1922 American silent comedy film directed by Hobart Henley. The cast included George Nichols, Lloyd Whitlock, Lydia Knott, William Welsh, Helen Jerome Eddy, Bert Roach, Eileen Percy, Edward Hearn, Harold Goodwin, and Buddy Messinger. It was based on Tarkington's 1913 novel ''The Flirt''. It was a Carl Laemmle film produced by Universal Film Manufacturing Company. The story features a girl who insist on having things her way. A film edition of the book was published in 1922 with film stills. Sheet music for a theme song, "The Flirt; Whose Heart Are You Breaking To-Night" was also released in 1922. Hobart Henley
Hobart Henley (born Hess Manassah Henle; November 23, 1887 – May 22, 1964) was an American silent film actor, director, screenwriter and producer. He was involved in over 60 films either as an actor or director or both in his twenty-year career, between 1914 and 1934 when he retired from filmmaking. Early life Henley was born Hess Manassah Henle in Louisville, Kentucky, to Samuel Henle, a German immigrant and retailer, and his wife Clementine. His father moved the family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where Henley later attended and graduated from the University of Cincinnati. Career Henley began his career as a stage actor, then moved to acting in silent films. He began dual duties of directing and acting in such films as '' The Gay Old Dog'' for Pathé in 1919. Buddy Messinger
Buddy Messinger (born Melvin Joseph Messinger; 26 October 1907 – 25 October 1965) was an American actor who was cast in substantial roles in dozens of films during the silent film era. He began his career as a jovial chubby child actor. With the advent of sound films he was relegated mostly to bit parts. His sister Gertrude Messinger was also a child actor. They appeared in several Fox fairytale movies for children. She transitioned to speaking roles in B-movies during the 1930s continuing her career into the 1950s. He featured in a series of "Edgar" films including ''Edgar's Sunday Courtship'', ''Edgar Camps Out'', and ''Edgar's Little Saw'' in 1920 and 1921. He appeared in a series of comedy films for Century Film Corporation. True Eames Boardman
True Eames Boardman (born William True Boardman Jr., October 25, 1909 – July 28, 2003) was an American actor and scriptwriter. Born in Seattle, Washington, Boardman was the only child of actress Virginia Eames and action-adventure star True Boardman. Boardman's education included a bachelor's degree in English literature from UCLA and a master's degree in theater from Occidental College. He began acting in 1912 and had acted in six films by the age of 10. He acted with Charles Chaplin in Shoulder Arms in 1918. Boardman was a writer for ''Silver Theater'', a dramatic anthology series on CBS radio in the 1930s and 1940s. On May 21 and May 28, 1939, he also appeared as an actor on the program, starring with Helen Hayes in "Crossroads for Two," a two-part drama. Thomas Aloyisus Kennedy (July 15, 1885 – October 6, 1965) was an American actor known for his roles in Hollywood comedies from the silent days, with such producers as Mack Sennett and Hal Roach, mainly supporting lead comedians such as the Marx Brothers, W. C. Fields, Mabel Normand, Shemp Howard, Laurel and Hardy, and the Three Stooges. Kennedy also played dramatic roles as a supporting actor. Career For over 50 years, from 1915 to 1965, he appeared in over 320 films and television series, often uncredited. His first film was a short black and white comedy ''His Luckless Love''.
