The Falcon (film)
''Banović Strahinja'' (Serbian Cyrillic: ''Бановић Страхиња'', released internationally as ''The Falcon'') is a 1981 Yugoslavian-German adventure film written and directed by Vatroslav Mimica based on Strahinja Banović, a hero of Serbian epic poetry. It entered the section "Officina Veneziana" at the 38th Venice International Film Festival. Plot During the late 14th century Serbia becomes the target of the Ottoman Empire. The year is 1388 and Turkish bandits freely roam throughout southern Serbia. While the majority of Serbian knights is concentrated around the city of Kruševac, capital of Serbia at the time, the southern borders are partially left undefended. It is not until the following year of 1389 when it will come to a total clash of two armies. Vatroslav Mimica
Vatroslav Mimica (25 June 1923 – 15 February 2020) was a Croatian film director and screenwriter. Early life Born in Omiš, Mimica had enrolled at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine before the outbreak of World War II. In 1942 he joined Young Communist League of Yugoslavia (SKOJ) and in 1943 he went on to join the Yugoslav Partisans, becoming a member of their medical units. Career After the war Mimica wrote literary and film reviews, and his career in filmmaking began in 1950 when he became the director of the Jadran Film production studio. Animation He had his directorial and screenwriting debut in the 1952 Yugoslav film ''In the Storm'' ( Croatian: ''U oluji'') which starred Veljko Bulajić, Mia Oremović and Antun Nalis. Medieval Serbian Army
The medieval Serbian army was well known for its strength and was among the strongest in the Balkans before the Ottoman expansion. Prior to the 14th century the army consisted of European-style noble cavalry armed with bows and lances (replaced with crossbows in the 14th century) and infantry armed with spears, javelins and bows. With the economic growth from mining, mercenary knights from Western Europe were recruited to finalize and increase the effectiveness of the army, especially throughout 14th century. Neda Spasojević (16 April 1941 – 16 July 1981) was a Serbian film, television and theater actress. She appeared in more than sixty films from 1964 until her 1981 death from cancer at age 40. Early life Neda Spasojević was born in the Yugoslav capital city Belgrade the week that the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was invaded by Germany in April 1941. Her father Milorad was a traveling actor.
