''The Emperor's Waltz'' (german: Kaiserwalzer) is a 1933 German musical film directed by Frederic Zelnik and starring Mártha Eggerth, Paul Hörbiger, and Carl Esmond. It was shot at the Tempelhof Studios in Berlin with sets designed by the art director Franz Schroedter. Location shooting took place around the Austrian spa town Bad Ischl. Plot In the days of Austro-Hungarian Emperor Franz Josef, an aristocrat and his son both fall for the same woman. Distribution Distributed by Aafa-Film, the film was released in German cinemas on 24 January 1933 with the censorship visa granted on 21 December 1932. In Austria, the film was released in 1933 by Koppelmann & Reiter under the title Audienz in Ischl. General Foreign Sales Corp. oversaw its release in the United States. Frederic Zelnik
Frederic Zelnik (born Friedrich Zelnik, 17 May 1885 – 29 November 1950) was an Austrian producer, director, and actor. He was one of the most important producers-directors of the German silent cinema. Zelnik achieved success through period operetta films in the 1920s and 1930s. Biography Friedrich Zelnik was born into a Jews, Jewish family in Czernowitz, today in Ukraine, at the time the capital of the Duchy of Bukovina in the Austrian part of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy. After studying in Vienna, Friedrich Zelnik worked as an actor in theaters in Nürnberg, Theater Aachen, Aachen, Worms, Germany, Worms, Prague and finally Berlin - in the theaters Theater an der Königsgrätzer Straße, Berliner Theater, and Komödienhaus. Fritz Spira
Fritz Spira (1 August 1881 – c. 1943) was an Austrian stage and film actor. He appeared frequently in films during the silent and early sound eras. Spira played the role of the Austrian Emperor Franz Josef in the 1926 film ''The Third Squadron''. Spira had been working in Germany before the Nazi takeover in 1933 compelled him to leave because of his Jewish background. He went first to Poland, then returned to his native Austria. Following the Anchluss he tried to leave, but was arrested. He would die in 1943 at the Ruma concentration camp in Vojvodina. Family He was married to Lotte Spira from 1905-1934 and was the father of the actresses Camilla Spira and Steffie Spira. Olly Gebauer (1908–1937) was an Austrian film actress.Vieira p.151 During the early sound era she established herself in the German film industry. Following the rise of the Nazi Party to power in 1933 she fled into exile with her Jewish husband, director Max Nosseck. Trude Berliner (28 February 1903 – 26 February 1977) was a German actress. She was one of many Jewish actors and actresses who were forced to flee Europe when the Nazis came to power in 1933. Biography Berliner was born Gertrude Berliner in Berlin, Germany. She became a famous cabaret performer in Berlin. In 1925, she appeared in her first movie, a silent film called '' Krieg im Frieden''. Berliner would wait four years before her second movie, but her film career would then take off. Hansi Niese
Johanna Niese, known as Hansi Niese (10 November 1875 in Vienna – 4 April 1934) was an Austrian actress. Career Hansi Niese made her debut at age 18 in 1891 in the South Moravian town of Znojmo at the local theater. Her success story began in 1893 at the Vienna Raimund Theater, where she appeared in the series for six years as a soubrette. In 1899 she moved to the theater an der Josefstadt. Soon after, she married Josef Jarno, the director of this theater. Not only at the various stages of Vienna, but also on tour in Berlin Niese has starred in numerous plays by including Ludwig Anzengruber, Gerhart Hauptmann, Ferenc Molnár, Johann Nestroy, Ferdinand Raimund and Arthur Schnitzler. Fritz Kampers
Fritz Kampers (14 July 1891 – 1 September 1950) was a German film actor. He appeared in more than 250 films between 1913 and 1950. Early life Fritz Kampers was the son of a Munich hotel owner, spent his early childhood in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and attended a boarding school in Weilheim in Upper Bavaria. After completing secondary school, he completed a commercial apprenticeship in a textile shop in Munich and at the same time took acting classes with Richard Stury, who presided as president of the Munich experimental stage. Franz Joseph I or Francis Joseph I (german: Franz Joseph Karl, hu, Ferenc József Károly, 18 August 1830 – 21 November 1916) was Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary, and the other states of the Habsburg monarchy from 2 December 1848 until his death on 21 November 1916.
