''The Devil's Debt'' is the fifth studio album by Scottish band Love and Money, released by Vertical in 2012. Background In 2011, Love and Money reunited to perform at Glasgow Royal Concert Hall as part of the Celtic Connections festival, which was followed later in the year with a concert at the SEC Centre. The band's reunion led to the decision to record both new material and some of the songs originally intended for the shelved album ''The Mother's Boy'', which was recorded between 1988's '' Strange Kind of Love'' and 1991's '' Dogs in the Traffic''. ''The Devil's Debt'' was released in 2012 and reached No. 60 on the Scottish Albums Chart. The title track was released as a single, with a music video produced by the thirteensquared production company. The video was shot at Govanhill Baths and Òran Mór in Glasgow. Love And Money (band)
Love and Money are a Scottish rock/soul/funk band, formed in 1985 in Glasgow, Scotland. The band was formed by three former members of Friends Again (singer-songwriter and guitarist James Grant, drummer Stuart Kerr and keyboardist Paul McGeechan) along with bassist Bobby Paterson, who replaced Friends Again's Neil Cunningham and who had been a member of Set the Tone, a band previously signed to Island Records in 1983. In their initial nine years together they recorded four moderately successful albums, three of which were released in the United States, and had six chart hits in the United Kingdom. Govanhill Baths
Govanhill Baths is a Category B listed Edwardian public bathhouse at 99 Calder Street, Govanhill, Glasgow, Scotland, designed by the architect A.B. McDonald and opened between 1912 and 1917. External refurbishment was completed in 2023. The building itself is currently closed for refurbishment works until 2024. Govanhill Baths Community Trust operates from an office at 126 Calder Street, across the road from the baths building. The campaign to save the baths from closure began in 2001, with an occupation of the building from 17 March until 7 August of that year. This is the longest occupation of a public building in British history. Design Govanhill Baths is Glasgow's last surviving Edwardian public bathhouse. Louise Rutkowski (born 1964) is a Scottish singer who rose to prominence as part of the 4AD music project This Mortal Coil. Early life At 19, Louise was signed to CBS Records, recording three singles and an album with soul producer Pete Wingfield with the band Sunset Gun. Ewen Vernal
Ewen Vernal (born 27 February 1964) is a Scottish musician. Born in Glasgow to a musical family, Vernal began taking piano lessons at 8 years old — inspired by a Beatles-singing mother and a choir-leading, saxophone-playing father. Singing competitions and local talent contests followed, but it was not until his teenage years that the bass guitar became the focus of his musical aspirations. Discovering an old guitar in the family loft with only a single low E-string left, he started to pick out bass-lines from favourite records, finally graduating to the real thing at 16 years old. James Grant (musician)
James Grant (born 8 October 1964) is a Scottish musician, singer, and songwriter. He grew up in Glasgow's Castlemilk district and still resides in the city. Friends Again James Grant's music career began in 1982 as songwriter and guitarist in the new wave band Friends Again, alongside Chris Thomson, later of the Bathers. The group had minor hit singles with "State of Art", "Sunkissed" and "Honey at the Core". They released a self-titled EP in 1983 which reached No. 59 in the UK and then recorded their debut album, ''Trapped & Unwrapped'', in 1984. ''Dogs in the Traffic'' is the third studio album by Scottish band Love and Money, released by Fontana in 1991. The album reached No. 41 on the UK Albums Chart. Three singles were released from the album: " My Love Lives in a Dead House", "Looking for Angeline" and "Winter". "Looking for Angeline" also served as the lead track on the band's 1991 EP ''Wishing Waters''. "Winter" peaked at No. 52 on the UK Singles Chart. In 2022, ''Dogs in the Traffic'' received a 30th anniversary reissue on CD and vinyl by Past Night from Glasgow. ''Strange Kind of Love'' is the second studio album by Scottish band Love and Money, released in 1988. The album's lead single " Halleluiah Man" reached number 63 in the UK Singles Chart and number 75 on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The following singles, " Strange Kind of Love", " Jocelyn Square" and " Up Escalator" were all released in 1989 and reached number 45, number 51 and number 79 respectively in the UK Singles Chart. ''Strange Kind of Love'' was reissued by Cherry Red Records in 2010.
