Barry Eugene Carter (September 12, 1944 – July 4, 2003), better known by his stage name Barry White, was an American singer and songwriter. A two-time Grammy Award winner known for his bass voice and romantic image, his greatest success came in the 1970s as a solo singer and with The Love Unlimited Orchestra, crafting many enduring soul, funk, and disco songs such as his two biggest hits: " Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe" and "You're the First, the Last, My Everything". Walkin' in the Rain with the One I Love was an R&B single in 1972 for the soul trio Love Unlimited, a studio group created by singer/producer Barry White. The main vocalists were female singers Glodean James, her sister, Linda James, and their cousin Diane Taylor. Glodean would eventually become White's wife in 1974; the couple would split up in 1988, though they never divorced. The song is notable for White's vocal appearance as a voice on the telephone. The lush sound and romantic atmosphere led to this becoming Love Unlimited's first hit record, eventually rising to #14 both on the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and in the UK, as well as reaching #6 on the Soul Singles chart in the spring of 1972. The Love Unlimited Orchestra was a 40-piece string-laden orchestra formed by American singer Barry White, and serving as a backing unit for White and for female vocal trio Love Unlimited. From the early 1970s on, they also recorded several singles and albums under their own name. Career The orchestra was originally formed in 1972 to back White's female vocal group Love Unlimited for their debut album. The following year they began supporting White for his solo debut ''I've Got So Much to Give''. Their biggest hit was 1973's instrumental single "Love's Theme". The track, written by Barry White, went to number 1 for one week in the US and number 10 in the UK. The RIAA awarded a gold disc in February 1974. It is one of the few instrumental and purely orchestral singles to reach No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart in the United States, which it did in early 1974. Paul Leo Politi (born July 31, 1943) is an American songwriter, famous for his collaboration of over 40 songs with singer and songwriter Barry White. Politi and White collaborated in writing songs including the singer Felice Taylor during the mid 1960s. Various songs co-written for her included " It May Be Winter Outside (But in My Heart It's Spring)" in 1967 and the follow-up " Under the Influence of Love". Both were later covered by Love Unlimited, a protégée female vocal group established through Barry White's initiative and were hit singles in the United States. The international fame came through " I Feel Love Comin' On", also co-written by Politi and White. The song became a hit for Taylor in the United Kingdom and throughout Europe in 1967.
