''The Children of Noisy Village'' ( sv, Alla vi barn i Bullerbyn) is a Swedish film which was released to cinemas in Sweden on 6 December 1986, directed by Lasse Hallström, based on the books about The Six Bullerby Children by Astrid Lindgren. A sequel, ''More About the Children of Noisy Village'', premiered the following year. The two movies were then reworked into a 7 episode TV-series that was broadcast in 1989. Lasse Hallström
Lars Sven "Lasse" Hallström (; born 2 June 1946) is a Swedish film director. He first became known for directing almost all the music videos by the pop group ABBA, and subsequently became a feature film director. He was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director for ''My Life as a Dog (Mitt liv som hund)'' (1985) and later for ''The Cider House Rules'' (1999). His other celebrated directorial works include ''What's Eating Gilbert Grape'' (1993) and '' Chocolat'' (2000). Early life Hallström was born in Stockholm, Sweden. His father Nils Hallström was a dentist and his mother was the writer Karin Lyberg (1907–2000). His maternal grandfather, Ernst Lyberg, was the Minister of Finance in the first cabinet of Carl Gustaf Ekman (1926–1928) and leader of the Liberal Party of Sweden (1930–1933). ''Now That Night Is Near'' (original title: ''Alla ska sova'') is a children's book written by Astrid Lindgren and illustrated by Marit Törnqvist. It includes Lindgren's song of the same name. Plot On a Swedish summer evening, the reader follows a cat on a magical walk along some beautiful landscapes. The cat sees lambs and other small animals who would rather play than sleep. Only when twilight turns to night all animals seem to fall asleep. The cat also returns home and goes to sleep. Background Astrid Lindgren originally wrote the song for the film '' The Children of Noisy Village''. In the film, the girls sing two verses of the song when they spend the night in the hayloft. The music was composed by Georg Riedel. When the artist Marit Törnqvist heard the song at Astrid Lindgren's funeral in 2002, she decided to create a picture book based on the lyrics. Georg Riedel (jazz Musician)
Georg Riedel (born 8 January 1934) is a Czech-Swedish double bass player and composer. Riedel migrated to Sweden at the age of four and attended school in Stockholm, including the Adolf Fredrik's Music School. The best known recording featuring Riedel is probably Jan Johansson's '' Jazz på svenska'' ("Jazz in Swedish"), a minimalist-jazz compilation of folk songs recorded in 1962–1963, though Riedel has recorded with other leading Swedish musicians including trumpeter Jan Allan and Arne Domnérus. Riedel's profile as a composer derives almost exclusively from writing music for Astrid Lindgren movies, including the main theme from the ''Emil i Lönneberga'' ("Emil of Maple Hills") movies.
