The Cells
The Cells is a 3-piece American rock band based in Chicago, currently made up of singer/guitarist Cory Hance, bassist Johnny Furman and drummer Mark Doyle. The band was formed in 1998 by singer/guitarist Cory Hance and bassist Brede Hovland. Hovland then dropped out to work in the movie business, and Hance, guitarist/singer Pat McIntyre and drummer Randy Payne continued the band with guest bassists such as Rick Ness, formerly of Fig Dish (a key Cells member during his stint), Skid Marks, of Box-O-Car, Josh James and Bob Rising . They released their debut album, We Can Replace You under Orange Recordings. After touring behind We Can Replace You as a 3-piece, Hance, McIntyre and Payne parted ways. Payne and McIntyre formed the band Cisco Pike. Hance recruited drummer Mark Doyle (formerly of Loud Lucy, Verbow and Woolworthy) and bassist Johnny Furman (formerly of The Webb Brothers, The Lupins and the Darlings) in late 2003. Skid Marks
A skid mark is the visible mark left by any solid which moves against another, and is an important aspect of trace evidence analysis in forensic science and forensic engineering. Skid marks caused by tires on roads occur when a vehicle wheel stops rolling and slides or spins on the surface of the road. Skid marks can be analyzed to find the maximum and minimum vehicle speed prior to an impact or incident. Skidding can also occur on black ice or diesel deposits on the road and may not leave a mark at all. Characteristics Skid marks are divided into "acceleration marks" created on acceleration, if the engine provides more power than the tire can transmit; "braking marks", if the brakes "lock up" and cause the tire to slide; or " yaw marks", if the tire slides sideways. The Webb Brothers
The Webb Brothers are an American rock band from Chicago, Illinois, who formed in 1998. History The Webb Brothers are Christiaan, Justin, and James Webb, sons of the songwriter Jimmy Webb and Patsy Sullivan, a cover-girl model. They are grandsons of actor Barry Sullivan. Christiaan and Justin grew up mostly in Montclair, New Jersey, where they were one year apart through middle school and high school. They then attended Boston University together before moving to Chicago. In 1998 the band recorded a demo album called ''Beyond The Biosphere'' with drummer Neal Ostrovsky, who also recorded and mixed the tracks, and shopped it around to US record labels, but none expressed any interest. However, the demo was picked up by London-based 7-inch-only label Easy!Tiger. Verbow
Verbow was an American alternative rock band formed in Chicago and active between the mid-1990s and early 2000s. The band's sound was distinguished by emotionally direct songwriting and their unconventional use of cello. History Early period: Jason & Alison The band grew out of a collaboration between Jason Narducy and Alison Chesley. They billed themselves as Jason & Alison, with Narducy singing and playing acoustic guitar while Chesley played cello. In describing their musical approach, Narducy said, "We basically took two wooden instruments and presented them in a very loud wall-of-sound way." In 1994, the duo released the album ''Woodshed'' on the independent Whitehouse Records label. Over the next year, they were profiled in Billboard Magazine, and opened for nationally known artists such as Bob Mould (of Sugar and Hüsker Dü) and Live. Cisco Pike
''Cisco Pike'' is a 1972 American drama film that was written and directed by Bill L. Norton, and released by Columbia Pictures. The film stars Kris Kristofferson as a musician who, having fallen on hard times, turns to the selling of marijuana and is blackmailed by a police officer (Gene Hackman). The movie, which is Norton's directorial debut and Kristofferson's debut as a leading actor, was filmed in the Los Angeles area in late 1970 and includes several contemporaneous landmarks. We Can Replace You
''We Can Replace You'' is the debut CD of the Chicago-based rock band, The Cells. It was released in 2002 on Orange Recordings. The disc was recorded and produced by Andrew Gerber at Million Yen Studio. History The disc was recorded by the band's initial founding lineup consisting of singer/guitarist Cory Hance, singer/guitarist Pat McIntyre, bassist Brede Hovland, and drummer Randy Payne over the course of a year. Though Million Yen Studio has since moved to a larger, more studio-like location, ''We Can Replace You'' was tracked and mixed in Andy Gerber's apartment in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood, with his upstairs neighbor's kitchen serving as the isolation room for the drums and bass. Founding bassist Brede Hovland laid down his final bass and vocal tracks just a day before leaving the band and Chicago to pursue a film production career in Los Angeles. Fig Dish
Fig Dish was a 1990s rock band based in Chicago. The band signed to PolyGram Records in 1995 and released two full-length albums before becoming inactive in 1998. Description Fig Dish's sound was influenced by 80s college rock and indie bands such as Dinosaur Jr. and The Replacements, and has drawn comparisons to Cheap Trick. They were part of a mid-90s Chicago rock scene that included The Smashing Pumpkins, Veruca Salt, and Local H. They were closely associated and often shared bills with those and other Chicago acts such as Triple Fast Action, Smoking Popes, and Hushdrops.
