''The Black Order Brigade'' (1979; also published as ''The Ranks of the Black Order''; french: Les Phalanges de l'Ordre Noir is a political thriller graphic novel written by Pierre Christin and illustrated by Enki Bilal. Plot outline A fascist organization with roots in the Spanish Civil War, The Black Order Brigade, commits an act of terror in a small Aragonese village. All villagers are executed. The English journalist Pritchard, who once fought against the rebel faction during the civil war, decides to take revenge. He succeeds in assembling nine of his former comrades from the 15th International Brigade. Pierre Christin
Pierre Christin (; born 27 July 1938) is a French comics creator and writer. Biography Christin was born at Saint-Mandé in 1938. After graduating from the Sorbonne, Christin pursued graduate studies in political science at SciencesPo and became a professor of French literature at the University of Utah,Historical Faculty Files, University Archives, University of Utah http://content.lib.utah.edu/u?/UU_EAD,156 Salt Lake City. His first comics story, ''Le Rhum du Punch'', illustrated by his childhood friend Jean-Claude Mézières, was published in 1966 in ''Pilote'' magazine. XV International Brigade
The Abraham Lincoln Brigade ( es, Brigada Abraham Lincoln), officially the XV International Brigade (''XV Brigada Internacional''), was a mixed brigade that fought for the Spanish Republic in the Spanish Civil War as a part of the International Brigades. The brigade mustered at Albacete in Spain, in January 1937, comprising mainly English-speaking volunteers – arranged into the mostly British Saklatvala Battalion and the mostly North American Lincoln Battalion. It also included two non-English-speaking battalions, the Balkan Dimitrov Battalion and the Franco-Belgian Sixth February Battalion. It fought at Jarama, Brunete, Boadilla, Belchite, Fuentes de Ebro, Teruel and the Ebro River. The brigade's songs were " Jarama Valley" and " Viva la Quince Brigada".
