The Bell That Never Rang
''The Bell That Never Rang'' is the fourth studio album by British folk band Lau, released on 4 May 2015 on Reveal Records. Produced by Joan Wasser, the album's title is taken from the city of Glasgow's coat of arms, and features The Elysian Quartet on its title track. The album is dedicated to the memory of The Elysian Quartet's Vince Sipprell, who died in January 2015. Background and recording ''The Bell That Never Rang'' was produced by Joan Wasser, noted for her musical career under the name Joan As Police Woman. After visiting Wasser in New York City, the band collectively decided to work with her on their next studio album. Aidan O'Rourke noted, "It was when we got back and talked about the experiences and the excitement of the trip, we decided to invite Joan in to produce us". Lau (band)
Lau is a British folk band from both Scotland and England, formed in 2005. Named after an Orcadian word meaning "natural light", the band is composed of Kris Drever (guitar, vocals), Martin Green (accordion, piano, electronics) and Aidan O'Rourke (fiddle). To date, the band has released five studio albums, several EPs, and two live albums. Origins Their debut album, ''Lightweights and Gentlemen'', was released through Reveal Records in 2007. The band subsequently won the "Best Group" at the BBC Folk Awards, 2008 and went on to receive the award the next two years running. __NOTOC__ Reveal Records is a British independent record label. It began as an independent record store in Derby, England. History The record store was opened by Tom Rose in 1999. The store reached its peak in 2005/2006 when it sold virtually every genre of music available on three floors, as well as operating an online outlet. It won ''Music Weeks 'Best Independent Music Retailer' award in 2005. At this time the music industry was experiencing a decline in sales of physical music formats including CDs, and this was one of the reasons that led to the closure of Reveal Records' retail outlet in 2007. She began her career playing violin with the Dambuilders and played with Black Beetle, Antony and the Johnsons, and Those Bastard Souls. Since 2004 she has released her solo material as Joan As Police Woman. She has released five regular studio albums, one EP, a number of singles and two albums of cover songs. Throughout her career, she has regularly collaborated with other artists as a writer, performer and arranger. Celtic Connections
The Celtic Connections festival started in 1994 in Glasgow, Scotland, and has since been held every January. Featuring over 300 concerts, ceilidhs, talks, free events, late night sessions and workshops, the festival focuses on the roots of traditional Scottish music and also features international folk, roots and world music artists. The festival is produced and promoted by Glasgow Life. Donald Shaw, a founding member of Capercaillie, was appointed Celtic Connections Artistic Director in 2006.
