The Baku Marionette Theatre
Baku Marionette Theatre established by the director and artist Tarlan Gorchu in the mid of 1980. The first performance of the theater was the marionette of Uzeyir Hajibeyli's opera '' Arshin Mal Alan''. The premiere held in France in 1990. The French press wrote: "The Marionettes are capable of everything!", "Two more nights of joy!” Thus, by the wishes of the audience, additional performances of "Arshin mal alan" were held. In 1993 the theatre changed its status to the municipal theatre, and in 2013 joined the “Icherisheher” Administration. More favorable conditions allowed the team to focus all its creative energy on the staging of Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s opera ‘ Leyli & Majnun’. In 2016 the Theatre was able to perform on its permanent stage for the first time. The façade of the historic building was designed in the late 19th century with classical Russian architectural elements and European décor. Sabail Raion
Sabail raion ( az, Səbail rayonu) is a raion of Baku, located on the Caspian shore. It contains the Old town of Baku and the Baku Boulevard as well as the settlements Badamdar and Bibiheybət, the administrative territorial divisions no. 1 and no. 2, the municipalities of Badamdar, Bibiheybət and Sabail, and is bordered by the raions of Nasimi, Yasamal and Garadagh. ''Arshin Mal Alan'' ( az, Arşın mal alan) is a 1913 comic and romantic operetta by Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov about a cloth peddler in 1900s Shusha, who is looking for a wife. Hajibeyov composed the operetta in Saint Petersburg and it was staged on October 25, 1913. The operetta is rich in national characteristics and realism. Following the opening in Azerbaijan, ''Arshin Mal Alan'' was performed in theatres of Tbilisi, Yerevan and Ashgabat, as well as Iran and Turkey. Synopsis The plot is centered on a bachelor named Asker, who wants to see and choose his bride before marriage. ''Leyli and Majnun'' ( az, Leyli və Məcnun) is an opera in four acts by Uzeyir Hajibeyov, to an Azerbaijani libretto written by the composer and his brother Jeyhun Hajibeyov. The opera was first performed in Baku in 1908. Performance history It was written in 1907 and first performed on at the Taghiyev Theatre in Baku, which was then part of the Russian Empire. The opera is considered the First Opera of the Muslim East. The first performance of the opera was led by Huseyn Arablinski and Hajibeyov himself played violin.
