The August Engine
''The August Engine'' is the second studio album by the American progressive/ heavy metal band Hammers of Misfortune. The recording of the album finished in April 2002. Initially the band had difficulties finding a record label willing to publish the album, so it did not see an official release until September 16, 2003 through Italian record label Cruz Del Sur Music. The album was later reissued in 2010 under Metal Blade Records. Hammers Of Misfortune
Hammers of Misfortune is an American heavy metal band from San Francisco, California. The band's style has varied from album to album, at times incorporating different elements of folk metal, doom metal, NWOBHM, black metal, 1970s rock, and thrash metal. It is the brainchild of guitarist John Cobbett, who serves as the band's producer and primary songwriter. History Hammers of Misfortune was formed in the mid-1990s under the name Unholy Cadaver. At the time, the only members were guitarist John Cobbett and drummer Chewy Marzolo, both of whom shared vocal duties. Enlisting the help of other musicians, among them Mike Scalzi of Slough Feg, they recorded a full album's worth of material in their rehearsal space. Janis Tanaka
Janis Tanaka (born January 9, 1963) is an American bassist who has worked as a session musician and on tour with a number of well-known artists including Pink, Fireball Ministry, Hammers of Misfortune, Stone Fox, and L7. She was also a member of the Pagan Babies, a band started by Courtney Love, Kat Bjelland, and Deirdre Schletter in the 1980s. Career Tanaka grew up in Long Beach, California, in a family with several sisters. She took courses at UCLA for one year followed by Long Beach City College. Tanaka began playing guitar, violin, and piano in elementary school. Music Early bands Tanaka played with include The Jackson Saints and Sugar Baby Doll. She left Hammers of Misfortune to play with Pink. In 2001, Tanaka appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno supporting Pink. She has also played in the band Winterthrall. Ostiense is the 10th ''quartiere'' of Rome, identified by the initials Q. X. The toponym comes from the original name of the Porta San Paolo, a gate in the city walls of Rome, was , because it was located at the beginning of Via Ostiense.
