The Army Museum Bandiana
The Army Museum Bandiana is dedicated to collecting, housing, displaying military equipment, weapons and vehicles associated with the Australian Army. It is the largest and most diversified military museum in Australia The museum is based within Australian Army base property, at the Gaza Ridge Barracks, near Wodonga South Bandiana, in the Australian state of Victoria. The museum houses over 150 military vehicles, as well as artillery, infantry weapons, uniforms, and militaria - including material brought back from war, as well as items retrieved from battlefields. History The museum was originally established in 1972, as the ''Royal Australian Army Ordnance Corps Centre at Bandiana''. As the collection grew in size, it was moved to a large shed in 1976. Bandiana
Bandiana is a Suburb of the City of Wodonga local government area in northeast Victoria, Australia. History Bandiana takes its name from the early name for the area, probably from a First Nations toponym. The hill now known as Bears Hill appears as Bandiana Range in early maps and the Street family selected the property Bandiana Park in the late 1800s. The Australian Defence Force has had a logistics and maintenance base in the area since 1942 and there was once a rail line and station servicing the area. Bandiana Military Post Office opened on 28 September 1942 and the region is still a major Australian Army logistics facility. Population In the 2016 Census, there were 615 people in Bandiana. 86.4% of people were born in Australia and 89.6% of people only spoke English at home. John Laffin
John Laffin (21 September 1922 – 23 September 2000) was an Australian 20th century military historian. Early life John Alfred Charles Laffin was born on 21 September 1922 at Mosman, Sydney, Australia. Both of his parents had served with the British Imperial military forces in World War I, his father as a commissioned infantry officer, and his mother as a nurse. In the late 1930s Laffin was employed as a trainee journalist on the staff of ''Smith's Weekly'', one of Australia's most patriotic newspaper-style magazines, and the ''Wagga Wagga Advertiser''. In 1941 he enlisted as a Private into the 2nd Australian Imperial Force, subsequently being commissioned as an officer and going on to see active service in the New Guinea campaign in World War II. 2/23rd Battalion (Australia)
The 2/23rd Battalion was an infantry battalion of the Australian Army, which served during the Second World War. Formed in June 1940 from primarily volunteers from Albury, New South Wales, the battalion served in North Africa in 1941–1942 as part of the 26th Brigade, which was assigned to the 7th Division, before being reassigned to the 9th Division.
