''The Archer'' is the second studio album by American musician Alexandra Savior. It was released on January 10, 2020 through 30th Century Records. Background and recording After releasing her debut studio album, ''Belladonna of Sadness'', she submitted a couple demos but Columbia records rejected them. The album was, in fact, finished in December 2018 but the label lost interest and dropped her and her manager quit. She thought that she'd never record ever again. She moved back to her hometown of Portland and started going to school, but her friend Danger Mouse offered her a deal and signed her to 30th Century Records. The album was produced by Sam Cohen, a Texas-based producer, and recorded at Dumbo, Brooklyn. Unlike her debut album, she wrote all the lyrics and guitar parts for the album. Alexandra Savior
Alexandra Savior McDermott (born June 14, 1995) is an American singer-songwriter originally from Portland, Oregon. She first came to public notice at age 17 in 2012 after being publicly lauded by Courtney Love, who saw a video of Savior performing cover songs that were uploaded on YouTube. Shortly after graduating high school in 2013, Savior pursued a music career in Los Angeles, and was signed to Columbia Records later that year, after which she began recording material with producers James Ford and Alex Turner. Her debut studio album, ''Belladonna of Sadness'', was released on April 7, 2017 by Columbia. After being dropped by Columbia Records in 2019, Savior was signed to Danger Mouse's independent label, 30th Century Records, who released her second studio album, '' The Archer'', on January 10, 2020. Psychedelic Pop
Psychedelic pop (or acid pop) is pop music that contains musical characteristics associated with psychedelic music. Developing in the late 1960s, elements included " trippy" features such as fuzz guitars, tape manipulation, backwards recording, sitars, and Beach Boys-style harmonies, wedded to melodic songs with tight song structures. The style lasted into the early 1970s. It has seen revivals in subsequent decades by neo-psychedelic artists. Characteristics According to AllMusic, psychedelic pop was not too "freaky", but also not very "bubblegum" either. It appropriated the effects associated with straight psychedelic music, applying their innovations to concise pop songs. Dream Pop
Dream pop (also typeset as dreampop) is a subgenre of alternative rock and neo-psychedelia that emphasizes atmosphere and sonic texture as much as pop melody. Common characteristics include breathy vocals, dense productions, and effects such as reverb, echo, tremolo, and chorus. It often overlaps with the related genre of shoegaze, and the two genre terms have at times been used interchangeably. The genre came into prominence in the 1980s through the work of groups such as Cocteau Twins and A.R. Kane. Subsequently, acts such as My Bloody Valentine, Slowdive, Galaxie 500, Julee Cruise, Lush, and Mazzy Star released significant albums in the style. Sam Cohen (musician)
Samuel Benjamin Cohen (born September 28, 1979) is an American rock vocalist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, artist, and producer based in Brooklyn, New York. A founding member of the psychedelic rock and pop band Apollo Sunshine, he released several albums with the group in the early 2000s. In 2009 he formed the solo project Yellowbirds, releasing the debut album '' The Color'' in 2011. This release was followed by '' Songs from the Vanished Frontier'' in 2013. The first Sam Cohen record, ''Cool It'', was released on April 28, 2015 on Easy Sound Records, and primary featured Cohen playing all of the instruments.
