''The Angel with the Trumpet'' (German: ''Der Engel mit der Posaune'') is a 1948 Austrian historical drama film directed by Karl Hartl and starring Paula Wessely, Helene Thimig and Maria Schell.Fritsche p.232 It is based on the novel of the same name by Ernst Lothar. The film was remade in Britain in 1950, under the same title. It was shot at the Rosenhügel Studios in Vienna. The film's sets were designed by the art directors Otto Niedermoser and Walter Schmiedel. Plot Family Saga set in Vienna through the Late 19th Century to 1945 post-war period. Karl Hartl
Karl Hartl (10 May 1899 – 29 August 1978) was an Austrian film director. Life Born in Vienna, Hartl began his film career at the Austrian Sascha-Film company of Alexander Kolowrat and from 1919 was assistant to the Hungarian director Alexander Korda. As a production manager, he in the 1920s accompanied Korda to Berlin, until in 1926 he returned to Vienna to work for his former class-mate director Gustav Ucicky. From 1930 he worked for Universum Film AG (UFA) and debuted as director of ''Ein Burschenlied aus Heidelberg'' ("A Fraternity Song from Heidelberg") starring Hans Brausewetter and Willi Forst, with young Billy Wilder as a screenwriter. Paul Hörbiger (29 April 1894 – 5 March 1981) was an Austrian theatre and film actor. Life and work Paul Hörbiger was born in the Hungarian capital Budapest, then part of Austria-Hungary, the son of engineer Hanns Hörbiger, founder of the ''Welteislehre'' cosmological concept, and elder brother of actor Attila Hörbiger. Erni Mangold (sometimes ''Ernie'' or ''Erna;'' born as Erna Goldmann on 25 January 1927) is an Austrian actress and stage director. Since 1948, she had appeared in more than 75 films and TV productions. Life Goldmann was born into a family of artists.
