The Ambrose School
The Ambrose School is a K-12 private, Christian school in Meridian, Idaho, United States. It follows the classical Christian education curriculum and is accredited by the Association of Classical Christian Schools. It teaches Latin in grades 3–10, Greek in grades 9–10, and emphasizes the Great Books of the Western World, grammar, logic, and rhetoric. The school operates as a 501(c)(3) Christian ministry. History The Ambrose School opened in 1995 in Boise with three students under the name "Foundations Academy." The first graduating class was in 2006, when it had a total enrollment of 220 student. That year it renamed its high school to St. Ambrose Christian High School. Then, in 2008, the school became The Ambrose School, encompassing grades K-12. Meridian is a city located in Ada County in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2020 census, the population of Meridian was 117,635, making it the second largest city in Idaho after Boise. Meridian is considered the state's fastest-growing city and among the fastest-growing cities in the United States. History The town was established in 1891 on the Onweiler farm north of the present site and was called Hunter. Two years later an I.O.O.F. lodge was organized and called itself Meridian because it was located on the Boise Meridian and the town was renamed. Classical Christian Education
Classical Christian education is an approach to learning rooted in the long story of Christian engagement with the classical tradition as exemplified first by figures such as the Cappadocian Fathers, Augustine and Jerome as well as the fullness of Christian monastic traditions. It's current revival in American K-12 schools started with three schools founded in 1980 to 1981: Cair Paravel-Latin School (Topeka, Kansas), Trinity School at Greenlawn (South Bend, Indiana), and Logos School (Moscow, Idaho). Various classical Christian schools emphasize and articulate different things in their approaches, but most include biblical teachings and incorporate a teaching model from the classical education movement known as the ''Trivium'', consisting of three parts: grammar, logic, and rhetoric. ''Great Books of the Western World'' is a series of books originally published in the United States in 1952, by Encyclopædia Britannica, Inc., to present the great books in a 54-volume set. The original editors had three criteria for including a book in the series drawn from Western Civilization: the book must have been relevant to contemporary matters, and not only important in its historical context; it must be rewarding to re-read repeatedly with respect to liberal education; and it must be a part of "the great conversation about the great ideas", relevant to at least 25 of the 102 "Great Ideas" as identified by the editor of the series's comprehensive index, what they dubbed the " Syntopicon", to which they belonged. The Association of Classical Christian Schools (ACCS) is an organization founded in 1994 to encourage the formation of Christian schools using a model of classical education. The association's website lists over 300 member schools with more than 40,000 students. The classical Christian education movement was launched by the publication in 1991 of a book entitled Recovering the Lost Tools of Learning' by Doug Wilson.
