The Adventures Of Bullwhip Griffin
''The Adventures of Bullwhip Griffin'' is a 1967 American Western comedy film directed by James Neilson, produced by Walt Disney Productions, starring Roddy McDowall, Suzanne Pleshette, Hermione Baddeley, and Karl Malden. The film's screenplay, by Lowell S. Hawley, was based on the novel ''By the Great Horn Spoon!'' by Sid Fleischman. The songs were written by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman and the theme song was written by Mel Leven and George Bruns, the latter of whom also composed the film's score. It was the fifth and final film Neilson directed for Disney. Plot In 1849, Jack and Arabella Flagg are orphaned in Boston. Along with family's former butler, Eric Griffin, they stow away aboard a ship bound for San Francisco, where the gold rush has begun. James Neilson (director)
James William Neilson (October 1, 1909December 9, 1979) was an American television director, known for his stage and film direction as well as his work with ''Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color''. Directing James W. Neilson was born in Shreveport, Louisiana, son of Edward Doremus and Clifford Bryant (nee "Hall") Neilson, and moved with his family to New York City as a child. In January 1942, Neilson enlisted in the US Marines directly following the entry of the United States into World War II. He served two tours of combat duty in the South Pacific and attained the rank of master sergeant. He was active as a war photographer. Following the war, Neilson returned to the theatre and from 1948 to 1952 he directed numerous productions at the La Jolla Playhouse, many of which featured well-known Hollywood performers including Gregory Peck, Charlton Heston and Groucho Marx. Cecil Lauriston Kellaway (22 August 1890 – 28 February 1973) was a South African character actor. He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor twice, for '' The Luck of the Irish'' (1948) and ''Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'' (1967). Liam Redmond (27 July 1913 – 28 October 1989) was an Irish character actor known for his stage, film and television roles. Early life Redmond was one of four children born to cabinet-maker Thomas and Eileen Redmond. Alan Carney (December 22, 1909 – May 2, 1973) was an American actor and comedian. Biography Alan Carney was born David Boughal in Brooklyn, New York, on December 22, 1909. His parents, Edward and Nellie (Kearney) Boughal, were Irish immigrants. He performed in vaudeville for years. After making his first film, 1941's ''Convoy'', Carney signed a contract at RKO Pictures and appeared in choice supporting roles in such films as '' Mr. Lucky''.
