''The 5 Mrs. Buchanans'' is an American television sitcom that aired on CBS from September 24, 1994 to March 25, 1995. Set in the fictional town of Mercy, Indiana, the show centers on the small-town misadventures of four diverse women with one thing in common: their loathing for their monster of a mother-in-law. Overview The unofficial leader of the group is Alexandria (Judith Ivey), a Jewish, 1970s crusader from New York City, who settled down and had a son, Chris, soon after marrying future high school principal Roy Buchanan ( John Getz). Sitcom
A sitcom, a portmanteau of situation comedy, or situational comedy, is a genre of comedy centered on a fixed set of characters who mostly carry over from episode to episode. Sitcoms can be contrasted with sketch comedy, where a troupe may use new characters in each sketch, and stand-up comedy, where a comedian tells jokes and stories to an audience. Sitcoms originated in radio, but today are found mostly on television as one of its dominant narrative forms. A situation comedy television program may be recorded in front of a studio audience, depending on the program's production format. The effect of a live studio audience can be imitated or enhanced by the use of a laugh track. Critics disagree over the utility of the term "sitcom" in classifying shows that have come into existence since the turn of the century. John Pardee
John Pardee is an American screenwriter and television producer, and was an executive producer for ''Desperate Housewives''. During the 1990s, Pardee wrote episodes of several television series, including the cartoon '' Doug''; the short-lived sitcoms '' Charlie Hoover'', '' Thunder Alley'', and '' The Crew''; and Cybill Shepherd's sitcom ''Cybill''. On ''The Crew'' and ''Cybill'' he also served as producer. When ''Desperate Housewives'' began in 2004, Pardee was one of the staff writers, and for the second year he was promoted to co-executive producer. Starting with the first episode of season four, he is now executive producer. Pardee mostly works with Joey Murphy. The two wrote the script to the upcoming remake of ''Mad Monster Party''. Michael Patrick King
Michael Patrick King (born September 14, 1954) is an American director, writer, and producer. He is best known for directing and writing for ''Sex and the City'' and its film adaptations, and for co-creating the television comedies '' The Comeback'', '' 2 Broke Girls'', and ''AJ and the Queen''. Life and career King was born to Roman Catholic Irish-American family in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He attended Mercyhurst University in Erie, Pennsylvania, for three years. In 1975, King moved to New York, did comedy, and wrote plays. He also was a member of a comedy improv group called The Broadway Local which mostly performed at Manhattan Punch Line Theatre. They were considered to be the in-house Improv group there.
