Thammampatti Town Panchayat (also known as ''Dharma Nagar'') is a Upgraded Special-Grade Town with a ''panchayat'' (local government) status in the Salem District of Tamil Nadu, India. The town is located between Pachamalai and the Kolli Hills on the River Swetha, and is known mainly for its fine wood carvings. History The region was ruled by several empires, including the three great empires – Chera, Chola and Pandyan, which shape the region's cuisine, culture, and architecture. After the fall of Kingdom of Mysore, the British Colonial rule during the modern period led to the emergence of Chennai, then known as Madras, as a metropolitan city. Modern-day Tamil Nadu was formed in 1956 after the reorganisation of states on linguistic lines. Salem District
Salem District is one of the 38 districts of Tamil Nadu state in southern India. The district is now divided into Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal as individual districts. Salem is the district headquarters and other major towns in the district include Mettur, Thammampatti, Attur, Omalur, Sankagiri and Edappadi. That Salem dates to at least two thousand years ago is evident from the discovery of silver coins from the Roman Emperor Nero Claudius Caesar Augustus Germanicus (37–68 CE) found by Koneripatti of Salem in 1987. It was ruled by Mazhavar King Kolli Mazhavan and kings Adhiyaman and Valvil Ori of Sangam age. It is part of Mazhanadu, a vast region that dates to the second century BCE. The Pachaimalai Hills, (Tamil: பச்சைமலை), also known as the Pachais, are a low mountain range in the Eastern Ghats System. They are located in Perambalur district & Tiruchirapalli district of Tamil Nadu state, southeastern India. It is situated at a distance of 10 km from Perambalur, 73 km from Trichy and 112 km from Salem. The Tamil Nadu Government is planning to develop the Pachaimalai as a tourist destination. The Vellar River is a river in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Vasishtha ( sa, वसिष्ठ, IAST: ') is one of the oldest and most revered Vedic rishis or sages, and one of the Saptarishis (seven great Rishis). Vashistha is credited as the chief author of Mandala 7 of the ''Rigveda''. Vashishtha and his family are mentioned in Rigvedic verse 10.167.4, other Rigvedic mandalas and in many Vedic texts. His ideas have been influential and he was called the first sage of the Vedanta school of Hindu philosophy by Adi Shankara.
