Thai animation ( th, แอนิเมชันไทย) has a rich history, dating back to the 1950s with the production of the first Thai animated shorts. Payut Ngaokrachang is considered the founding father of Thai animation. Over the decades, the industry has flourished, earning both local and international recognition. Today, Thailand has established itself as a popular outsourcing destination for animation work, with 91% of its animation studios providing services to international companies. This has boosted exports and raised the profile of Thai animation, earning recognition from the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) as the top animation-related business destination in Southeast Asia in 2016. Payut Ngaokrachang
Payut Ngaokrachang ( th, ปยุต เงากระจ่าง, April 1, 1929 – May 27, 2010) was a Thai cartoonist and animator. He created Thai cinema's first cel-animated feature film, ''The Adventure of Sudsakorn''. Biography Early life Payut was born at Klong Warl village, Warkoe, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province. As a child, Payut was interested in nang drama ( shadow-puppet plays) and Felix the Cat. In 1944, he enrolled in classes to become an art teacher. Payut studied by correspondence with illustrator Hem Vejakorn, whose work was seen on the covers of 10-satang pulp novels. Through their letters back and forth, Hem introduced Payut to drawing. "I had been a fan of Khru Hem’s drawings since 1944, when I was 14. So, I wrote him asking to become his student. He was a great teacher and taught me a lot, from how to draw anatomy to getting the right perspective on paintings. Blue Sky Studios, Inc. was an American computer animation studio based in Greenwich, Connecticut. It was founded on February 22, 1987 by Chris Wedge, Michael Ferraro, Carl Ludwig, Alison Brown, David Brown, and Eugene Troubetzkoy after their employer, MAGI, one of the visual effects studios behind ''Tron'', shut down. Using its in-house rendering software, the studio created visual effects for commercials and films before dedicating itself to animated film production. This discipline is known as the "art of eight limbs", as it is characterised by the combined use of fists, elbows, knees and shins. Mae Nak
Mae Nak Phra Khanong ( th, แม่นากพระโขนง, meaning 'Lady Nak of Phra Khanong'), or simply Mae Nak ( th, แม่นาก, 'Lady Nak') or Nang Nak ( th, นางนาก, 'Miss Nak'), is a well-known Thai ghost. ''Nak'' ( th, นาค) is a Thai computer-animated dark fantasy horror film that was released on April 3, 2008 and aired on TV in Thai PBS Kids. The story is based on ghosts of the folklore of Thailand, who in this movie shed their sinister reputation and are the heroes. Nak, its central character, is based on the figure of Mae Nak, a Thai female spirit that has a baby and can stretch her arms.
