Tezu
Tezu is a census town and the headquarters of Lohit District, Lohit district in the Indian States and territories of India, state of Arunachal Pradesh. It is the fifth largest town in Arunachal Pradesh and one of its most developed. Tezu is one of the 60 constituencies of Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly, Legislative Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh. The current MLA (May 2019) of Tezu constituency is Karikho Kri. He is an independent candidate. Geography Tezu is located at . It has an average elevation of 185 metres (606 feet). It is situated on the bank of River Lohit. Tezu Airport
Tezu Airport is a regional airport serving Tezu, Arunachal Pradesh, India. It is operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), which upgraded it to handle ATR 72, ATR-72 aircraft with night-landing facility. Prime Minister of India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the upgraded airport on 9 February 2019. Scheduled commercial flights commenced from 19 August 2021. History Tezu was one of five airports that were shortlisted in 2015 for the implementation of AAI's "UDAN, no-frills model", which will provide only essential services needed to operationalise the airport, without compromising on safety and security in any way. With an aim to ensure low cost of operation, the airport was to have no conveyor belts, no aerobridges and only the security hold area for departing passengers was likely to be air-conditioned. As of 2011 it is the third most populous district of Arunachal Pradesh, after Papum Pare and Changlang. Etymology It was known earlier as the Mishmi Hills. The district is named after the Lohit River and consists of the river valley and hills/mountains to the North and South. History During medieval times, the present district was under the control of the rulers of the Chutiya Kingdom. The Chutiya rulers controlled the area from the early 13th century to the 16th century and during the 19th century, it became one of the last territories to be brought under British control after the punitive Abor and Mishmi Expedition in the first decade of 20th century. Parshuram Kund
Parshuram Kund is a Hindu pilgrimage sites situated on the Brahmaputra plateau in the lower reaches of the Lohit River and 21 km north of Tezu in Lohit district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. Dedicated to sage Parshuram, the popular site attracts pilgrims from Nepal, from across India, and from nearby states of Manipur and Assam. Over 70,000 devotees and sadhus take a holy dip in its water each year on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, in the month of January. Pasighat is the headquarters of East Siang district in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.
