Bhutanese textiles represent a rich and complex repository of a unique art form. Sangay Choden
Queen Mother Sangay Choden (born May 11, 1963) is one of the four wives and queens of Bhutanese king Jigme Singye Wangchuck, who ruled in Bhutan from 1972 until his abdication in 2006. She is the Queen Mother (Gyalyum Kude, literally meaning "Queen Mother") of Bhutan. Biography Her father, ''Yab Dasho'' Ugyen Dorji (1925–2019), was the Founder and Proprietor of Ugyen Academy (03/04/2002). Her mother is ''Yum'' Thuiji Zam (b. 1932). Motif (textile Arts)
In the textile arts, a motif (also called a block or square) is a smaller element in a much larger work. In knitting and crochet, motifs are made one at a time and joined together to create larger works such as afghan blankets or shawls. An example of a motif is the granny square. Motifs may be varied or rotated for contrast and variety, or to create new shapes, as with quilt blocks in quilts and quilting. Contrast with motif-less crazy quilting. Kira (Bhutan)
The kira ( dz, དཀྱི་ར་, དཀྱིས་རས་, translit=dkyi-ra, dkyis-ras) is the national dress for women in Bhutan. It is an ankle-length dress consisting of a rectangular piece of woven fabric. It is wrapped and folded around the body and is pinned at both shoulders, usually with silver brooches (named ''koma''), and bound at the waist with a long belt. Royal Textile Academy Of Bhutan
The Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan (རྒྱལ་འཛིན་ཐགས་རིགས་སློབ་སྡེ་) was founded to preserve and promote the living art of weaving which is an important part of the culture and tradition of Bhutan. Under the patronage of Her Majesty ''Ashi'' Sangay Choden Wangchuck, it is a non-government, non-profit organization established as an educational center for the training of individuals in traditional Bhutanese weaving. It is a first institution in a country practicing and imparting global methods and techniques of conservation and preservation of the priceless textiles and other artifacts. Bhutan Textile Museum
The Bhutan Textile Museum or the National Textile Museum is a national textiles museum in Thimphu, Bhutan, located near the National Library of Bhutan. It is operated by the National Commission for Cultural Affairs. Since its establishment in 2001, the museum has generated national and international attention and has garnered a substantial collection of antique textile artefacts, exclusive to Bhutan.
